While browsing Google Earth photos of port Southampton, images dated 4/30/2023, I saw these:

Do we have a guess what cars these are? Some clues include the blue and green colors, and one car having apparently a red dash.

Wow... This is really what it's come to because Lotus refuses to send status updates for some reason.

I guess this is the "fleet of Emira" that were supposed to show up to LOG earlier this year, huh? They they arrived late and ended up eventually making the rounds to various dealers.

There are bright green cars in that collection I doubt those are Emiras.

I don't think these are Emiras. The first line that are more cab-forward are likely McLaren, or something else quite exotic with a very long rear deck.

The second line has odd proportions with a long nose that doesn't look like a Lotus. Plus the rearmost car in the second line (exposed doors) is a bright green color, which can't be an Emira for obvious reasons, and the one with red visible through the windshield seems to hint at a fully red interior package including dash, which is not a thing that Lotus does.

Arturas on the top row was my guess too. The side intake position, and the chimney opening over the rear deck lid

+1 for Mclaren Artura's. That's what immediately came to mind when I saw that body shape. R8's are built in Germany so unlikely it's something non-british unless they were just offloaded for delivery in the UK (also unlikely).

I have a very funny suspicion that none of the FE.1 will be delivered to any NA customers before January 2024
They are definitely being built. Just think lotus will try to ship all 700 at same time to save costs
No proof just what I think

I don't think there's much savings in shipping them at the same time. They likely pay a rate per container and has as much to do with capacity of ships as it does a bulk pricing. I doubt that has much impact on a decision. The bigger question would be storage of cars (do they have more/cheaper storage on the UK side or on the US side) if they're not shipping to dealers until CARB approval.

These are shipped on RORO vehicle carriers so I believe they are paying per vehicle and there is likely little savings to be had aside from import/export filings and per-shipment document fees. I agree that these per-shipment fees are likely small enough to not matter much in Lotus' decision to ship them in batches or all at once.

However, if the cars are to be stored in the US for some time, it would be easier for logistics to ship them in larger batches so that the unloading drivers and warehouse prep people can process the cars with less potential for damages/mistakes.

If the cars are already made (oh no! can of worms!!!) and they wish to store them somewhere prior to delivery to dealers, it would usually be cheaper and lower risk for them to be stored at the source rather than the destination. Of course, they have to balance that against the delay in getting them to the dealer once they are ready to proceed.

Not sure if anyone has tried this tactic, but I emailed Lotus today (message below) and encouraged them to respond to this forum. It seems a relatively simply request, and I hope it will be considered.

I will let you know if I hear anything...
