I plan on tracking the Emira and wanted to corner balance the car once the new coilovers were installed.
Based on this article it says not to do so on mid-engine cars???

I think he is referring to the 50/50 FR weight split not being desirable in mid engined cars, not corner balancing.

No, I believe the context you're taking is not that the author is saying NOT to corner balance, but was referencing static F/R weight balance. I can't say I agree, without knowing the intent of the car, but corner balancing is never a "bad" thing.

It's just a tool to assess the static load on each wheel/corner of the car. There are different methodologies that can be applied to manipulate the cornering behavior, but by striving for a 50% CROSS WEIGHT, you are trying to ensure the car handles similarly in left hand corners and right hand corners.

While this is only a sample of one, this is my Emira V6 with a full tank of fuel, no driver. Touring suspension. I'd say the factory did a great job manging left weight and cross weight.

Naturally with driver, things will be different as our mass will be different. But here's a reference point for a 130lbs driver.

If your putting coilovers on definitely corner balance it. Remember you are driving a sprung platform and you want is as even as you can get it. Jusst ensure Left and Right on the front and rear axel are even then the diagonals are even. Can be alot of stuffing around but the car will drive way better and more predictable.
Make sure your or similar weight in in the drivers seat if you want to get way more exact.
JP129s example shows it well and nice to see Lotus do a good job.
