Redline Reviews: "The 2025 Lotus Emira 2.0T Is A Superlative Driver's Car With A Stonking Motor From AMG"

Is the manual Emira a daily car, no? My previous car, 981 Cayman S, was easily a daily car thanks to the PDK. Of the two which was an event to drive, the Emira every time. Because it's not a daily, certainly not with Sport suspension where I live, it's a special occasion in every way and every drive.

Horses for courses, I miss the superb PDK and its ease of driving without having to engage, but I really wouldn't want it, or similar, in my Emira. Piped in sound? Nooooooooooo. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I think

I think people would go wild for a manual transmission driver's focused Ferrari. It would be dumb money. If it becomes unobtainium, then it continues to propel the Emira v6 manual value proposition. There would of course be comparison videos. Do I buy this for $500k or this for $75k ? I hope it happens because I think that further supports future appreciation // I know sports cars are not investments //
Far too many on here ignore depreciation by saying 'I don't care', great if you have enough cash to waste but not everyone does. I'd prefer not to lose a bundle on any car.

Lol....everyone talks their book. Maybe enthusiasts shouldn't tell other enthusiasts on HOW to be an enthusiast! If you like to row your car, have at it. If you want to compare OBJECTIVE findings like the above video has, we can do that too. At the end of the day, I love the I4 with all of its sounds, character, and acceleration coupled with the sport suspension, and that's ok! I believe, however, if you were to take a spin in a US I4 in track mode, you'll come away a bit different.

At the end of the day the i4 Emira is an absolute beast.... fact. A manual option with this engine would have been awesome, although I still would have gone with the DCT.

The 400hp i4 is so far up on torque than the V6, the real-world performance difference is big enough to render the manual vs auto purity test irrelevant.

With that said, I would openly choose a DCT for convenience alone. I daily drove an NB MX5 in central London for 12 years, and made more gear shifts than most backroad weekend drivers will in a lifetime. After switching to autos several years ago, I'll never go back.

Enough with the V6 manual vs i4 DCT bashing banter. A true enthusiast will make his/her own choice based upon experience, preference and driving style, respecting whatever another person chooses to drive. Your ride is personal to you. There are no 100% right choices, only the right to make a choice and we're lucky the Emira offers us different variants to choose from.

That said (rant over), it was a fun video to watch, made better by his obvious joy driving the Emira i4 and enthusiastic response to it. Great free PR for Lotus.

I wish the wireless phone charger mistake was true...

I also thought his launches were in a slightly downhill section. But maybe I am just jealous it's a second faster...
Did car & driver record downhill as well? Nah, he always discloses slope angle when he launches....
