No brainer pick tbh if you’re getting a M2 CS at sticker. The M2 won’t look as exotic but will be infinitely easier and less expensive to own.

The last sentence of your post, that “you really need to want a Lotus” perfectly sums it up. For many that’s the case. Is it the case for you?
This is interesting, haha. I just sold my M3 CS to order the M2 CS. It had 10K miles when I sold it, and cost of ownership over 2 years, including tracking the car, was less than $10K, so I know what you mean. And I do expect the Emira to cost a bit more, but not significantly; based on your statement I must be underestimating
The M3 CS was superb in many ways, and probably the best car I have ever owned. I expect the M2 to be as good, and hopefully a bit more playful.
I miss the days I could work on my cars, I miss the days when I could hear the mechanical noises, I miss the days when I could predict what the car was going to do in the middle of the corner, I miss the days when the car was not synthesizing the exhaust note, I miss the days... I can go on I guess
There isn't a single person I talked with on this topic who said "I'd go with the Emira," including Emira owners. I am genuinely shocked! Many of these people are the ones that keep complaining about the electronics of this car or that car, the weights ballooning, lost steering and chassis feel, the good old E46, E92, or 996/997 days, etc. When I bring up the Emira and how it turns all of those complaints upside down, they still say "buy the M2." What's wrong with you people!?!?! (tongue-and-cheek, of course).
Someone said, rightly so, that I won't be able to get a new M2 CS later on if I pass on it now, but I can get an Emira any time. It makes sense certainly. What I am afraid of is that once I get the M2 CS, I will not want to change and I won't ever taste the Lotus special sauce.
