I thought some other people might get a kick out of this... Current market price for a used 2013 Mercedes ML 500 is between $25–30k CAD; why even bother with this quote, then?? 
For context, sometime during the last year, pistons # 5 & 6 of the engine suffered some kind of fault that caused them to score the inside cylinder walls, resulting in 70% pressure loss and engine stalling. And the kicker was: there was never a single check engine light / fault code reported in the vehicle's computer.
Car was purchased new, and given normal scheduled oil changes throughout its life. Needless to say, my parents will be choosing a different brand for their next vehicle...
