My friend owns and drives a well maintained and gorgeously beautiful Elise S1 in Oslo, Norway. Recently he visited the Lotus London showroom (honestly I am not sure which one, in case there are several). He was quite impressed with the car. However taxation of ICE cars in Norway is really horrendous. For many years Lotus was not even distributed in Norway since the 5 million inhabitants would not buy too many at the gross prices that come out of the tax calculations. On the other hand taxes on electric cars were reduced to nearly zero, and road taxes and some parking fees were also waved. The result is that over 60% (possibly more) of all new cars sold in Norway are now electric. And this has also led to a new distribution channel for Lotus. Eletre is currently being promoted. Norwegians have pretty strong income (while taxes are also considerable), and there should be a certain portion of buyers interested in cars like the Eletre. Even though the Emira has also been exhibited in Norway recently, it will be the next Type 135 sportscar that will have the ability to get traction in that market. Along with a few classic Lotus that are old enough (30 years and over) to enjoy lowered taxes as “classic cars”.
