Lumbar supports not working?

So today was my fourth time driving an emira. For the first time longer than an hour. While the seats didnt bother me the first two times driving the Emira, I actually got lower back pain in the second two rides. I hate lumbor support and never use it in any car. Even completely deflated the Emira seats seem to stick out into my lower back and I cant get a comfy/rounded seating position.

I read this thread but I am not exactly sure what to do. My Emira will arrive in about 3-4 months and while I love the tillets (I was able to test-sit them because my dealer installed them in an Emira) I am not really keen to drop another 7k…

What would you guys suggest to be the best solution to my problem? Completely remove the blatters? Will this the stop the seat sticking out so much, even though the blatters are empty and quiet narrow?
Tillets? It’s an interesting one.. I had a back ache the first maybe 10 drives and now I find the seats pretty comfortable… including a 2hr drive.

I had the same experience. On the first few drives in the Emira, I was getting back pain and felt very uncomfortable. But after a couple of months, the pain went away, and are now reasonably comfortable. My trick was to skooch my butt well back into the seat, so that the lumbar area hits my back as low as possible. It could be that the foam has flattened out over time as well. And naturally, the lumbar is set to zero.

Over time the foam gets crushed down. This is the only thing that helps the stock seats. I think the alcantara seats have less of a pronounced budge. Not sure why.

I'd get the lumber supports checked out before you take delivery of the car. There have been quite a few examples of them, not being in the right position and I think one example where 2 were on top of each other so made the issue even worse.
Mine have started to be a nuisance, so I plan to get them looked at the next time the car at the dealership

Ok thanks I will wait and see after I get my car and drive it for a few weeks before making any decisions

Just like others have stated.. they are from the factory on top each other. Very easy to open up the back of the seat.. flip the one bladder up and now you have a lower and upper lumbar. It’s night and day difference. Here is my before and after pics. Hope it helps a bit.

If anyone is in the US-tristate area, especially northern NJ, I don’t mind helping modify it with you sometime.

I'm glad this thread became active again. I always wondered why both the lumber controls seemed to do the same thing.
I don't know if we can blame Lotus for this one, I assume the seats arrive fully assembled at the Lotus factory. I wonder if anyone has fed back to the Chinese supplier about this..

Night and day as it doesnt stick out that much if fully deflated?

Doesnt look that simple if I compare the 2 pictures… dont you have another plastic piece installed/added?

Is there any change somebody could do a short video? That would be awesome

I did this fix but kept the black plastic in the original location. Didn’t really help much.

It looks like you moved the black plastic to the mid-back. Does that feel a lot different? It might.

Also did you have to snip the white looped part to free the black plastic?

I did the mod today. Like Thaddeus I took the bladder out completely.
Actually it feels ok. Your lower back will go further into the seat and you'll sit a little lower because of that.
I'll leave it that way and drive for a while to see how it feels before I'll put the plastic cover back on. I'm also pretty sure you don't have to cut the 2 air hoses. The bladder will fit nicely under the plastic cover on the opposite side of the metal spring back.
It would be smart to unplug the power to the pump though. Does anyone know which connector that is?

What a better way to spend New Year's Eve than to perfect the Emira's driver seat? Happy with the result  The cushions underneath were modified and the leather was extended (see marked areas). Lumbar support tech was modified as instructed above. Now upper back, lower back, head and hips get the right ergonomic support.

not exactly sure what you did but less cushion in 4 and 2 with additional side bolstering and keeping the stock look would be lovely

Sure I can give some details. Measurements were taken beforehand and the cushion comes in layers. Original look was kept intact (y)

The cushion for Part 1 was reshaped (head support) as it was pushing my head on the wrong spot. Part 2 was extended about 7 cm and made more ergonomic (lower back support) it was the hardest part to fix. For Part 3 and Part 5 the cushion was reshaped and replaced by a softer one (legs support). Part 4 was made flat and placed about 1 cm higher (more comfortable to sit now).

I visited the store several times, tested the seat and asked for adjustments. Some things cannot be altered but some can. One needs to find a patient craftsman 😎

They could have put the same seats as on the Evora GT to the Emira from the factory. Not 100% sure but the shape looks better on those ones. Did anyone have these?

These are rebranded recaros I think. Very comfy and functional. Too bad they decided to spend energy to design the emira seat vs install aftermarket. I think they legit spent a lot of energy on the emira design which looks great, but they aren’t going to outdo the racecar seat pros in function.

I think the new Toyota GR GT comes with high end recaros. I would have much preferred that. Might have been cheaper for lotus in the end too.

They are Recaro’s and they weren’t without their issues. The leather cover kept coming away from the seat base in use. Lotus issues a set of metal clips to fix the issue, but they were also problematic. I had to take my car to a coach trimmers, who used a combination of clips and glue to get the cover to stay in place.

It’s crazy that no one at Lotus is acknowledging or addressing the seat problem. If they just drive the car for 1 hour straight they’ll feel the pain

They could have provided some parts for free, as to fix the driver’s seat. Since day 1 the lower back problem was there - well not anymore.

I bet that the cars that they used during testing have many thousands of miles of use, and the bulging lumbar area have been well compacted to the point where no one is having any more back pain issues, and think the seats are just fine.
