AUTOMODS SKID PLATES FOR EMIRA
I have negotiated a Introductory discount code for EMIRA FORUM owners. Please use code "EM1RA15" at checkout to get 15% discount on your skid plates.

PROTECT YOUR FRONT BUMPER AGAINST: SPEED BUMPS, STEEP INCLINES, POT HOLES, etc
This package includes everything needed to install your 4 piece Lotus Emira skid plates.

Why Choose AUTOMODS Skid Plates
  • Thinnest skid plate available (1/8” thin) with a lifetime warranty for any issue
  • Automods skid plate requires no holes to be drilled, drilling 20-40 holes during installation defeats the purpose of protecting your bumper
  • Preserve your bumper in its original condition by using 3m vhb tape to attach skid plate to bumper with no modification
  • Acrylic foam tape adds a layer of foam protection between the skid plate and your bumper
  • Tape bonds its entire surface area to the bumper unlike screws/rivets that only bond at point and keeps debris and water out
  • Skid plate has slits that conform to your front bumper and yield better coverage on the front outer edge
  • Visually less noticeable than any other skid plates
  • No need to remove the front bumper during installation
  • Skid plate can be removed without any sign it was ever there
  • Patent pending and designed/manufactured in the US
  • Kits have everything you need for an easy installation
Before you order, verify that your bumper matches the bumper in the pictures.

I'm confused. What company is selling these? There's no link in your post.

Also, the Emira already has a full aero tray under the car. What does this "skid plate" do? Does it protect the underside of the front bumper/lip?

I suspect they don't know what a skid plate actually is, and they're calling this stick-on rash guard thing that for lack of better terminology. It's confusing.

That is correct, it protects the under side of the front lip. I have one on my LEXUS & NSX. I just updated the post with the link to buy.

Are you saying it's the price of a bumper for a stick-on plastic guard strip?

I have had a great experience with SLIPLO:

It’s on my BMW 1M and Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio…I have a fresh kit waiting for my Emira…

That is cheap plastic kit, seems more for aesthetics than actual function.

Yeah i’ve used sliplo to protect a lip from scrapes and it worked well.

$900 for the automods one tho — idk about that.

A lot more complicated than it seems.
A 3D model of the bumper surface can be generated from from a laser scan. You can rent them, or borrow from a local maker space.

Then it's just a matter of adding some Z axis to thicken the profile, digitally crop to the desired shape, smooth the corners, and print it in sections. Sticky tape it on, and go.

It's a sacrificial part hidden under the bumper, so it doesn't need to be cosmetically perfect.

If you have more process involved that justifies a price tag that's higher than the part it's intended to protect, please tell us more.

if you can make a few extra and let us see it; we'd be interested in buying them from you.... but $900 for the other piece....nah...maybe for $200....

I paid $500 for this skid plate for my Focus RS, and I can tell you a hell of a lot more design and material went into this one. The OEM Ford plate was a POS fabric based one. And would scoop up snow/ice during the winter, which caused it to deform and sit lower, scooping up yet again MORE snow and ice, up until it finally caught on something that ripped it right in half. So these metal ones do the same job, but guaranteed to not bend/bow. I bought mine in black, because I don't like colors in my engine bay or for things that people will never see.

I happened to buy this for my Emira and it's been great. I rarely scrape but there's always the odd driveway entrance that I fall victim to once in a while, and I like having the peace of mind knowing that the bumper didn't take the damage.

My PPF guy did a great job installing it too so you really can't even tell that it's there unless you reach down and feel it.

It's a little pricey but totally worth the money IMHO.
