Lightweight battery

Finally found an option for us here in Oz (sorry if it’s already been mentioned).

40Ah, 13lb, T6 size, Bluetooth monitoring, restart tech, etc.

Not cheap, but certainly cheaper than other options.

Anyone have experience with these?

 
I understood that you had the Amazon battery in mind, but with China dominating the global lithium-ion battery industry, I wasn't afraid to take the plunge. My only regret now is how much I paid for the Antigravity battery.

Just fitted an interesting option for those in the UK. The price was just too good for me not to give it a try!

Predator SureStart, 40Ah, 1200 CCA, 6.9kg... 200 quid 🤩

After a bit of research, and some direct questions on suitability to the helpful mob at JustBatteries.co.uk, I sourced mine via their eBay storefront (they were running a promotion there for 10% off at the time).

I originally tried to fit the 56Ah variant, but the casing was ever so slightly too long to fit, so I returned that and grabbed the 40, which is slightly smaller than the stock battery.

Fits easily (obviously), fired eagerly on first startup, voltage is a solid 13.28 at rest (I have a remote monitor hooked up).

My Evora GT 410 Sport is std equipped with the (beautiful and high tech.) Super-B Andrena 25Ah LifePo4 starter battery incl. Ctek battery charger.
It is now 6-7 years old and still works fine, however the rest of the lifetime may be not so long.
To replace it the Super-B Andrena 25Ah (also used in Porsche) however is very expensive (€ 1400,- in the Netherlands/Belgium).
An alternative could be the Super-B Andrena 20Ah, which has sufficient starting power / capacity for normal daily use, however this one still costs € 1100,-.
I therefore searched / studied the possibilities of the application of some other make of a 20Ah LifePo4. and to have one standby / in stock for the case of necessity.
There are not so many small size ones; those that are suitable for the Evora battery space / clamp available on the market as far as I discovered.
On the web I found an alternative on the site of jackwebbmotorsport.co.uk which has a 20Ah LifePo4 battery which "succesfully was applied on 3,5 Ltr. engines" and has a very good price.
However I went my own way and purchased a 100% JWS similar 20Ah LifePo4 battery in China (Dohon) which fits wonderfull in tthe existing battery box + clamp where now the Super-B 25Ah is located.
I tested it today and my 3,5 Ltr Toyota engine started with full power immediately........I am happy with it.
I made some pictures and a datasheet of the info I gathered, starting with the existing Super-B 25Ah situation.

Finally got around to buying and installing this battery.

Works perfectly so far, although I notice that once the car is warmed up and sitting at slow idle the battery is very slowly discharging.
As soon as a few more revs are on board it charges as normal.

Anyone else encounter this with a Lithium battery?
My guy suggests the car needs to be told of the battery change and all new parameters put in. The car is going in for annual service tomorrow so I’ll ask them to do this.

I weighed my OEM battery when it came out of the car at 20.05kg (44.2lb). I thought I read somewhere here that someone had weighed one at 24+kg so not sure if they have different batteries for different regions.

In any case, I still got a 14.15kg (31.2 lb) saving so well worthwhile.
 
If you are talking about fitting a lithium battery to an Emira, you really need to be stating whether you have a V6 or I4. AFAIK V6 works just fine with a lithium starter battery, but I4 has some issues.

Mine is a V6 and it works just fine.

If it wasn’t for the Bluetooth monitoring I would never know about the tiny discharge at low idle, so I suspect most people just don’t notice.
 
The only people that should have any reservation on this topic should be i4 owners given the weird AMG charging logic.
 
So does this information only relate to the i4?

Not sure. A friend sent it to me when I mentioned the battery change and the tiny discharge at idle (which unless people are monitoring the battery via Bluetooth in real time they’d never know about).

For all I know it could be an AI response, and therefore worthless (I’m no fan of AI).

Guess I’ll find out tomorrow at the dealer.
 
Given the crazy, control freak mentality of insurers these days, I wonder if a change to Lithium or similar batteries, requires notification to insurers? Imagine an accident, or fire, and on inspection of the wreck, you get told, ah yeah, you didn't tell us about that, sorry, bye! :(
They seem to want to know EVERYTHING these days, pinstripes, PPF, graphics, wheels, remap etc (at least they do in the UK).
So maybe batteries too, especially given the fire issues with some battery types.

Just a thought.

Cars with smart alternators/charging might benefit from telling the ECU that the battery has been changed, but so far as I understand it, the V6 Emira doesn’t have a smart system. The I4 Emira does have a smart alternator, unfortunately it’s a bit too smart for its own good and doesn’t play nice with a lithium battery.

There is nothing wrong about a small drain at idle. So long as the battery charges during normal usage and gets somewhere close to 100% at the end of a drive, then you haven’t got a problem with the lithium battery.
