Some info first: I have a Ghost2 installed that stalls the engine if I put the car in gear if I've not entered the ghost PIN. Standard process has been to start the engine and then put the PIN in.
This afternoon I got in the car, started it, but it instantly died. Locked the car, unlocked the car, tried to start again. Instantly died. Repeatable.
Got the AA out. He disconnected the battery to reset the car. Tried to start the car, same problem. Engine fires, instantly dies.
The AA Mechanic knew I had the Ghost 2. He asked if I could put the Ghost2 code in before starting the engine. Not my normal process, but ok. I turned on the ignition, entered my code, the ghost indicated it was off. Then I fired the engine. It kept on running and didn't die. Ok. Car's working again! To me this suggested that the Ghost 2 couldn't tell whether the gear box was in neutral so it just killed the engine - working as designed basically.
Much relieved to have the car running again, I thanked the AA man and manoeuvred out of the parking space. It was then that I realised when I put the car in reverse, I was no longer automatically getting the reversing camera up. You can get the reversing camera through other means on the central display and when I did that the reversing camera worked as normal. I tried it again when I got home and the reversing camera doesn't came on when I put the car in to reverse. This also suggests that some sort of sensor in the gear box might have failed.
The parking break is refusing the release automatically at the moment as well, I don't know if that's a symptom or just a separate 'thing'.
Elsewhere in this forum, I read that potentially a restore to factory settings on the main console might work and I'll try that tomorrow. However, has anyone experienced something similar and does anyone know if there is a sensor in the gear box that could fail and give these symptoms.
Fortunately I have a way of dealing with it, but it needs to be resolved. Any information or ideas before I talk to Silverstone Lotus would be good to hear from the collective mind.
