UK Question

I know it s a bit early but when I lock in the spec I need to specify if I need a tracker or not . I know I can add one after through a third party which may be a bit cheaper than the factory fitted option but my previous insurer on my 350 Sport would not allow the car to leave the dealers until the tracker was fitted and operational.

I just need social use and have always used CCI/ Footman James which comes with six free track days which I like to have . They are saying no tracker needed but I have to join the Lotus Drivers Club or they will not insure the car at all. DC are apparently a ' Gold' associate at Footman james

Just wondering who is everyone planning to use for insurance and whether trackers are being requested as the norm or not

Thanks

Those seem quite restrictive and strange conditions, though I've never used a specialist insurer for any cars I've owned.
I've used mainly Privilege and Admiral multicar policies (though I've never taken any of my own cars on track). They've not specified a tracker needed for the 2 most at risk (Boxster Spyder & Range Rover - the latter being the 2nd most stolen car in the UK I read!).
When I have done quotes for trackers before, the cost of the tracker service was many times higher than the saving in the insurance, so I've never had one activated.

I've used REIS previously and now use Manning. They can do any permutation of business, commute and SDP miles. For example one year I needed about 500 business miles for the odd trip to places other than the office (I commute by train) and 3500 SDP miles, but now I have just 3000 SDP miles. They can also include track day cover, either UK only or UK + EU, and will do agreed value rather than market.

REIS used to require a tracker on cars worth more than £50k. I haven't asked Manning but have included the factory tracker option because it's decent value for money and a saving versus doing it myself - the first year's subscription is included as well as the fitment.

As an aside, I started shopping around for insurance in Australia. Lotus seems to be accepted by most of the larger insurers, but they all insist that the car must be garaged and locked away at night. The premiums seem reasonable, although the excess (in most cases) is insane… one company had a $15,000 excess!

Basic Admiral Multicover policy for my Exige 350. Kept on the street in London. No cover conditions at all. Reasonable-ish premiums and actually fairly good service when I've had to claim. I don't track it though.

Just curious mates what are reasonable insurance rates I'm in Canada?
Since I have a winter car, I can go with something called "my pace" where I pay a flat fee of $300.00 and then I pay as I go, around $70.00 for each 1,000 kms I drive.
Much cheaper than just insuring it as a second car.
Curious what you gents pay in other countries.
I can guess that our mates in Australia get burned on insurance as well as retail pricing of the cars.

BMW 320d = £180
Boxster Spyder = £220
Land Rover Disco 2 = £320
Range Rover L405 = £700
All on same multicar policy

Update , thought I would check with FJ and get the phone conversation with them confirmed in writing. Have now had a complete U turn from them , now insisting on a tracker . I am really not impressed with them as this is the second time there has been some confusion .
I am going to play safe and get the tracker fitted , at least its done then
