As the title suggests, wondered how people got their Forum name?
Some seem quite obvious, but others less so

For me, I've used this on forums for about 20yrs. It comes from me spending a lot of time at the beach as a kid and owning a T-Shirt that had Beachbum in big letters on it. From there is just happened to be what I was called for a while and then I chose as a name when registering for forums.

Whats your story

Screen name was my alter ego after Emira deposit made. You never forget your first Lotus, the Emira's spiritual ancester.

So having seen “handbuilt” cars first hand at Hethel 44 years ago, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on the evolution of “handbuilt” as it stands today with the Emira. Mere evolution, or night and day differences?

First a disclaimer – my degree was in engineering, but my career was in finance. My amateur opinion is the difference is night and day, for three reasons: Huge advances in manufacturing technology, better materials (I was surprised at the time by the amount of wood used in a 1980’s Lotus), and better coordination between designers and the shop floor. I haven’t been back to Hethel (hoping to visit this summer) but I’m guessing they no longer need large yellow hammers to make recalcitrant parts fit. The fact that Lotus is still around is worth celebrating given the fate of their competition back then: Reliant, Bond, Morgan, Marcos, TVR, Gilbern, AC Cars, Bristol and Jensen. The one semi prescient thing I wrote back in 1980 was “the future of the performance car industry is likely to be based on specialist firms continuing to produce distinctive products, but financially run by mass manufacturers who will use the specialists name to sell products containing a large proportion of mass produced components.” which was based in part on the success that Porsche was having teaming up with VW-Audi on the 924. So I had to give the Emira serious consideration after the Geely deal. Had some teething issues with the car last March related to the thermostat, but since then it’s been excellent

The name was very easy.

The first car I ever bought for realz, aka not a hand me down purchase from parents.

Bought it as a roller with a broken engine/transmission, hacked to pieces for $800.

Rebuilt it from ground up on very limited budget when 19. Have done al the work myself over the years, including painting the car. Multiple engine swaps, Auto to T56 manual swap.

Makes about 440whp na with a Gen2 LT1. Top speed should be hair over 200, but I've GPS verified 193mph and it wasn't done, however I realized I left my oversized balls in my other pants and it 193mph was fast enough on a highway. Was 6500rpm in 5th, car makes peak power at 6800rpm and will rev to 7400rpm.

In college, I had a lot more blonde hair than I do now and a friend deemed me Johnny Bravo after the cartoon. Also, we are a big BMW Family (this will be my first Lotus) and I have had many but my first was an E36 M3 in Estoril Blue among an E60 M5, 328i, and my latest was this F80 M3. Hence, Johnny Bravo M3, or JBravoM3 for short. Just kind of stuck over the years as my online handle.

Hhhmmm, I think it was a combo of later in the night post, TWO Nelumbos, (not the same one) and multiple posts by @GrahamClark_60-68 that confused me!

Anyway, as promised..

A year ago when joining, I had been looking for a Lotus wooden shift knob to put in my 2009 T25 Jim Clark Elise SC. Google search found someone saying here they found one recently, despite me getting a few "nopes" by dealers.
So, to post, I joined under "NoEmiraYet" as I wasn't really looking for an Emira...BUT that Jim Clark Emira DID have an appeal..
(Btw, got the knob for the Elise before the price went through the roof so they would have enough for the Clarks I guess.. from $325+ went to over $1K !!)

Well, through a recent chain of events in the last 30 days, I DID get a Jim Clark Emira, so the old name seemed wholly inaccurate.

The new name is more accurate.

EDIT: With my other big hobby being collecting rare palms trees and knowing all their latin names, I should have caught the Nelumbo reference!!!
