How could they screw up a key fob so bad?

What are people using to attach keys? I can't get any rings to work. How could Lotus screw up a key fob this bad?

I ordered the black leather w/red stitching version of that from BanC and have had it on my spare Fob for well over 18 months inside my home safe. Coincidentally, my Emira also has the tan interior, but I thought Black would show less wear over time. Regardless, I simply do not like how much more bulky, particularly wider, those cases make the Fob because of the protruded surrounding lip. Imo, the Emira's Fob is already far too large to carry around and to retrieve from my trouser pockets, so I opted for a cover (pictured below) which also protects the Fob while minimally increasing its external dimensions. Admittedly, it is not the most glamorous of covers, but it is effective in protecting the Fob and it's also fairly inexpensive. Just another option.

I've got this exact same one from Ali Express for about US$5 and while it looks the price, it does the job as well as its much more expensive cousins and adds very little additional bulk to the already bulky fob.

When Lotus sent out the care packages to the FE Americans for waiting soooo patiently, it came with a lanyard. The lanyard had a twine loop that you thread through the Keyfob, which lets it attach to any keychain. See the pictures in the listing.

I never knew those terms and I've learned something new. Thread the loop on the letting through the peyton. How many people would know what that means? Sounds like it might be British-speak.

The quality of the fob materials is really poor too. Mine looks like its been through WW2 with the amount of scratches and marks. Despite the car only having 5k on it. Whereas my 8 year old BMW fob looks like new despite the car being 115k. The metal gets damaged really easily.

I really hate the Lotus key fob. I have considered ordering a Subaru key fob and just coding my Lotus remote to the Subaru key fob. However there is one concern as the fob should have an RFID chip in it to start the car in case of low key battery.

Has anyone else tried cloning the fob to a new remote from another brand? If so, how did you handle the RFID issue?

I found a fix for anyone annoyed with the chromed plastic on the key getting scraped up. You basically remove it with Super clean degreaser. It’s kind of a fiddly job but your just completely take apart the fob and soak the two plastic halves in the degreaser for a day or two and the chrome just disintegrates/can be wiped away and you are left with nice glossy ABS plastic. I’ve had cases on the key fob but it just makes them too bulky. So I’m going back to a naked fob. I assume it will still get scratched especially if dropped but it won’t look as bad as scraped up chrome.

Possibly, but since the chrome is applied over black ABS it’s probably still going to mar if dropped. This process takes the chrome off and exposes the glossy ABS which is the same as the buttons and battery cover on the fob. (Which so far seem fairly durable)
