Just picked up a 2024 2.0 i4 this Wednesday and less than 200 miles later I got a CEL. My reader intially connected and showed P2CEF, but when I tried to clear it I got an error message. I can’t find any good leads on google. Anyone else have this problem yet or have any tips? Dealer said to bring it in if it doesn’t clear itself in a day or two. I greatly appreciate any help.

Can't help with the code but beautiful car! Also, if that's your Hummer EV, check out our Hummer EV forum!

Yes it’s my daily. I LOVE that thing. It has small issues with the super cruise and electrical mishaps from time to time, but over all it’s an amazing truck.

I picked up that same code this past week. Fortunately, i've got my 1000 mile oil change scheduled for the coming week so i can get it figured out along with other minor issues that need sorting.

I ordered the Bluedriver OBD scan tool and was able to clear the code. I’ll put some miles on it today and see if it comes back on.

Speaking with the tech at Gator, he suggested i not try clearing the codes; so I'll just see what they find next week. Did you notice any change in how the car drove?

I haven’t noticed any difference in how it drives. I figure it’ll throw a code again if there is an issue.

Ryan, what all can you read/clear with that scanner. Do you know if it can read/clear an airbag fault? Or read/clear the SRS fault after the battery drains for that system? seeing as these cars employ systems from multiple brands it would be nice to confirm a scanner that can access multiple of them.

thanks,

Well, code came back. I have an appt at the dealer tomorrow morning to get it sorted out.

I’m not sure the extent of the scanner, but I don’t think it will clear an airbag fault. I think that will take one of the fancy expensive scanners. It does seem to work better than another generic scanner tool I was using. The other scanner would only read the code.

I had an airbag fault in my McLaren after a shop unplugged the door airbags during an install with the battery still connected. Online sources said only a dealer could reset it and McLaren gave me a quote at $600! A local performance shop with great customer service was able to clear it for free.

Any word on what the dealer found? I have the same code and cleared it but it came back. My appt is for the 9th.

Dealer couldn’t find anything since I cleared the code prior to taking it in. (I assumed it with come back during my drive to the dealer) They did do a software update which said could help. They said they have seen cars with the old software get CEL’s randomly when there isn’t an actual problem. So far the code hasn’t come back on and I’ve driven at least 100 miles since the update.

Ok thanks. I will drive it tomorrow with the hope it will come back before I take it in.

Got the word that "thermostat stuck" is the issue. Replacement is the fix. Seems they've had a few of these with this issue. Looks like there are 2-3 updates available- not sure what they are for but happy to hear it all the same.

V6 or I4?

An update from this owner on their similar/same issue.

Cleared mine again and it hasn’t come back even at 100 miles but I’m still gonna drive it to the dealership on Friday to see if it comes back.

I suspect they'll attempt a flush as mentioned in the video. If that doesn't help, then the thermostats get replaced, ultimately engine replacement, etc. The good news, there seems to be a clear root cause (residual sand from the engine block casting process). The bad news, "residual sand from the casting process!".

How the F does a global multi-billion dollar company like MB not have a QC process to check new engine block deliveries and/or not quarantine specific lots of engine blocks once the root cause was identified is beyond me. It just goes to show you that these problems are not unique to small auto manufacturers like Lotus.

It seems like the sand was a small batch (hopefully). Hope it’s just a faulty thermostat. My code came on at 1400 miles. I cleared it and it came on again with 50 miles. It cleared it again and it hasn’t come on again in 150 miles. Car drives fine. It seems like it went into fault when the rpm’s hung up in sports/tour mode.
