Go Pro - rear windshield

This year for track I'm changing from front mounted Garmin Catalyst and plan to put a Go Pro on the rear windshield. Has anyone done this? Did you use the small adhesive that come with the Go Pro or did you get a suction mount? Any other tips? Thanks!

when i changed rotors to girodisk i got rid of the vibration and shimmy issues under hard braking.

nice review; I've also had issues with vibrations on braking (and then pulling right after some hard laps). I think the vibrations were terrible with RP-1s until fully warm which took several hard laps; I'm getting camber, coilovers and changing to 18 inch wheels. Going to start with EBC blue I think, though when I got my oil changed at Lotus, the tech noted the rear pads not fitting quite right as you mentioned, though vibrations seemed to be from the front

You need to make sure if you are mounting a camera on the exterior of the car that the suction cup is clean, and the surface using is clean as well. Dirt and debris make a suction cup not stick. A quick wet wipe of the surface and suction cup means that as long as you are getting an air tight seal, the suction mount should stay on. Glass being one of the best surfaces because it is flat. I use Go Pro and their suction out for exterior shots. And I have a mic close to the exhaust which is held by electrical tape.

Interior shots, easy. Just get a suction mount for your phone. An iPhone with an interior suction cup mount even off Amazon works just fine. Attach to any interior glass surface and you are good.

What type of mic are you using? I’ve now tried multiple and they all just get extremely distorted by the exhaust note.

I then got a five foot exertion chord so that the camera can be on the front windshield, and the extension chord taped with electrical tape along the roof line so the microphone is about 8 to 10 inches above the exhaust.

So the mic is called a "Lavalier style". The kind you could clip to a shirt.

Then you get a dead car cover for it to reduce wind noise.

To reduce it being too loud tape the microphone about 8 to 10 inches above the exhaust. If you find it destorted, the record volume is too high.

There may be better solutions out there, perhaps wireless but I do not have any experience with them.

you also want to turn off any sound isolation in the mic so that there isnt any auto leveling. you want to do this manually.

External mic is the only way.

I once watched a video ages ago, like 20 years where a guy put a mic in the intake tract in front of the filter and one on the back bumper.

He then mixed the 2 tracks with the mic on the interior camera. It was glorious to hear the v8 induction noise competing with the exhaust.

I still want to do that. One in the left side intake and on the bumper. Then find a reason to visit every RPM up and down the road. The supercharger whine and bypass along with the exhaust would be equally as glorious.

But I’ve yet to really find an an external mic or two that I think will do the job.

This is a very set up I have now. Intake and exhaust combined with the new Boya unit which is unbelievable for what you get for the money really really inexpensive
