Many of you will be familiar with the process by now, here are the key stages in getting Nimbus from the screen hand-drafted onto the canvas, pre-prepared with 3 coats of gesso.

This represents about 6 hours work, precision in everything is vital otherwise I'm painting on shaky foundations, like driving on worn dampers!

I could definitely paint this ... but the grid would need to be 1,000,000 x 1,000,000 and be paint by numbers. :ROFLMAO:
That would absolutely work and with a name like digilotus one pixel at a time would be the the natural way to go!

Oh, and a friend bought me this for a laugh...

Happy Mondays to you all, here is the weekend's progress:

1. Image drafted on the canvas
2. Hours spent choosing and mixing grey for the background. As mentioned previously and as with DV, you dont paint metallic cars with metallic paint, you reproduce it in the same way a photo would and if you get it right it has the appearance of metallic thanks to reproducing how the light plays on it.
3. Mixing the grey: as per the photo below, this is not just a matter of mixing black and white - it has EVERY colour on this pallette in it! This gives a richness of tone and the ability to see different hues in it subject to the light. I've kept it on the warm side of neutral in keeping with Nimbus itself.
4. Painting the background - you have to work fast or the paint drags, so masking off the subject allows you to work faster than if you were trying to paint neatly around it.
5. Masking removed. Here she is, the main event, ready to begin.
