I'm going to guess yes. Looks aesthetic vs functional. Probably not strong enough for two JUBU people to stand on even with it in place.

Exactly. So I figure the center piece is necessary for rigidity so it isn't flexing under even minimal load.

It does lower the approach angle a bit. I've scraped mine a few times despite being careful.
