Lotus excluded from UK 2030 ICE Ban

In what world would that make more sense? If the reason for banning ICE production is, as stated, to move to carbon net zero (the only purpose of which is to try to slow or stop climate change), then the ban has to apply to all manufactured cars, wherever the product will eventually be sold...

If you sold your EMIRA what’s next?

I never got my Emira - canceled my order as soon as I saw the (horrible, to me) digital interior. I now have a manual 2017 Aston Martin V8 Vantage S and it's all the superb, tactile, analog sports car I could ever want, and it sounds sublime. I have an Elise SC and a Ferrari 488 too, but I love...

    How much !!! New Key

Worth mentioning, Admiral requires you to change the physical door lock barrels as well as programming new keys / de-programming the lost ones, otherwise the car is no longer insured against theft. Needless to say this costs considerably more than £500 cover!

Supercar you would take instead of the Emira

I don't know. A new Emira seems to be aboout £90k in the UK. A mate of mine is currently looking at a used, well-specced 2016 Ferrari 488 from a main Ferrari dealer, serviced with two years' Ferrari warranty. Asking £135k. Obviously this is new playing seven years old. But it's soooo much more...

Supercar you would take instead of the Emira

I bought a (used) rosso corsa Ferrari 488 Spider instead. It hasn't cost me a penny in maintenance yet because every new Ferrari comes with seven years' free servicing, and was supplied with nearly three years' Ferrari factory warranty - no issues yet, it's been bulletproof. It is utterly...

    Track day preparations

Oh, on the car itself, you'll probably not actually need anything over stock to begin with. As you progress you might want to uprate the pads (but be careful, high-performance pads and discs can really compromise the car's everyday feel - and sound) or racing brake fluid. The most important...

    Track day preparations

First, I can not recommend tuition highly enough. I learnt and achieved more from a single day's tuition than I would have in years of bumbling on trackdays on my own. And I usually book at least 20 minutes of tuition every day I do to work on or get feedback on something specific. Helmet was...

    EU Car Emissions Face Pushback

The UK is not part of the EU. The UK government has already stated that it will not follow the EU's policy of allowing synthetic fuels... all bets are on electric here, meaning we will be lumbered with the ecological nightmare of battery EVs. The 2035 date does not even apply to us - between...

Well I will find out soon, as I need to make the decision on extending the warranty again in around a month's time. I wasn't claiming a free lunch, just relaying my experience. Ferrari now enable the full factory-backed all-inclusive warranty to be extended up to 7 years, with another manufacturer-backed option up to 15 years. There are modern V8 Ferraris out there with 250k miles on the clock, with no serious issues as long as they are well maintained. I think I'm...

A cautionary tale. I was driving my Elise SC to its MOT this morning and discovered the wipers didn't work. Checked the fuse and relay, the problem is the wiper motor. As it's a clam-off job it's going to cost £800 at an independent. I will have spent nearly £4000 in maintenance/repairs over two...

    Seatbelts jammed

... Really? Words fail me... In all seriousness, if this is Lotus' attitude towards one of the critical safety features of their cars, which other parts have not been screwed on correctly because "to be honest, we have no idea which way round it's supposed to go by looking at it".

Emira Sports Car Of the Year

Well I think this just shows that the "News UK Motor Awards 2022" have zero credibility. How can Lotus win best manufacturer and sports car, when they haven't delivered any UK cars and seemingly pissed off their entire customer base? And all the reviews say the Cayman is the better car.
