More Reports of Emira Hybrid

Apologies if this article has been posted before as it is over a week old but I didn't find it posted here.

Stupid, click bait headline : "Lotus Emira no longer marked for death" and the article is almost devoid of any facts.

They mention a possible AMG V6 engine as an option - this sounds like pure speculation to me. Although we could fantasize about AMG's V6 PU106B engine, the only V6 AMG have in current production as far as I can tell.

I'm not against hybrids or EVs, in fact I have both as daily drivers, but this just feels like the antithesis of Lotus. I'm not sure how adding a V6 that is likely turbocharged, if coming from AMG, plus batteries and electric motors doesn't add 300ish pounds using an E-Ray as approximation.

I'm not in the car business so maybe I'm missing something and there's a large enough market for hybridized sports cars to warrant the engineering budget, but it feels like a bigger leap than the Eletre and Emeya models which I could at least see as subsidizing their sports cars.

With that said, if they figure out how to add in the AMG One's hybrid V6 sign me up :D

I think Geely or maybe just the chairman is the largest single shareholder of Mercedes, hopefully that allows him some pull on getting something in (imho, I prefer if Audi would sell their 5 cylinder engine to Lotus)

Heard from my dealer returning from IAA in Munich that the V8 is definitely off the table, but that a V6 hybrid is coming with the engine being sourced outside of Toyota. Not sure how reliable this info is, but he seemed confident in it.

Audi isn't going to update the 5 cyl for Euro-7, so pretty sure that's out.

I could see a DCT v6 turbo hybrid that is heavier but faster working for some. It’s anti-lotus in philosophy it aligns with what all “super” cars are doing these days. Emira still looks amazing. If it was actually really fast that could be interesting.

With 40% of the Hethel workforce being cut on top of redundancies earlier this year it is clear that Emira production is being dramatically scaled back, almost certainly moving to one shift. The only way the Emira is going to make any kind of financial sense to Geely at much lower volumes is if it moves upmarket, so my guess is that a hybrid Emira V6 if it ever comes would be heavily restyled, possibly branded as a new model and with a £150k+ price tag. I sincerely hope the Hethel factory survives the next couple of years to see such a project through. The whole operation seems to be hanging by a thread at the moment :(

Knowing companies in general, Geely are most probably looking at this in a truly financial sense and saying "get rid of the workers now, develop a new car, rehire workers when production needs to ramp up"
For the employees, not a great way to be treated, for Geely it makes financial sense and for Lotus, it may just save its presence in the UK.

If it’s the AMG One's hybrid V6 I don't think anyone would complain at all in fact everyone might feel like trading in their ICE emira 😅 of course if they put that engine in the car who knows how much it would cost

Hybrid brings off the line feel of lightness, the key (mentioned above) is to keep the weight down enough so that you do not feel it through the twists. They need to keep the weight under 3,400 lbs. E Ray is almost 3,900...
