I was taking a look at the website https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/ and thought the figures on there about the Emira could be of interest. Figures are taken from official DVLA statistics and are roughly a quarter out of date, so the most recent information is up to the end of Q2 2024. Not all registrations will equal sales as this will include cars such as those owned by Lotus (development cars, press fleet etc).

So as of Q2 2024:
  • There had been 1431 all time Emira registrations of which:
    • 1300 were taxed and 41 were on SORN, leaving 90 unaccounted for
    • 1041 (73%) were V6 FE, 205 (14%) were i4 FE and 185 (13%) were V6 FE Auto
    • 91 were registered in 2022, 1060 were registered in 2023 and 280 were registered in first half of 2024
  • Of the 1300 taxed there were:
    • 1041 V6 FE
    • 201 i4 FE
    • 171 V6 FE Auto
  • Of the 41 SORN there were:
    • 38 V6 FE
    • 2 V6 FE Auto
    • 1 i4 FE
And while I'm at it, there have been 821 Eletres registered in the UK, with 777 taxed: 234 Eletre (30.1%), 269 Eletre S (34.6%) and 274 Eletre R (35.3%). In the first half of 2024 there 322 Eletres registered compared to 280 Emiras. Also the i4 and V6 auto Emiras look to be rarer than any of the Eletre variants.

For any non-Brits, SORN is 'Statutory Off Road Notification' which means you've notified the DVLA that the car has been taken off the road and so doesn't require the annual road tax to be paid.

I wonder if the 90 unaccounted Emiras are preregistered ones sitting at dealers?

I'd guess some of them could be but also probably could be due to things like eg. 2nd hand cars in showrooms, cars that have been written off etc.

The How Many Left website has recently been updated, UK Emira figures as of the end of 2024:

Emira FE Auto (i4):
  • 370 all time registered
  • 370 newly registered in 2024
  • 350 Licensed
  • 9 on SORN
  • (11 unaccounted for)
Emira V6 FE:
  • 1096 all time registered
  • 121 newly registered in 2024
  • 927 Licensed
  • 94 on SORN
  • (75 unaccounted for)
Emira V6 FE Auto:
  • 191 all time registered
  • 15 newly registered in 2024
  • 163 Licensed
  • 9 on SORN
  • (19 unaccounted for)
In total:
  • 1657 all time registered
  • 506 newly registered in 2024
  • 1440 Licensed
  • 112 on SORN
  • (105 unaccounted for)
I presume the cars unaccounted for will be a mixture of cars that have been scrapped/written off and cars that are on sale at car dealers.

As a comparison, the Eletre's figures were
  • Eletre: 387 Licenced, 0 SORN, 401 Total registrations of which 257 in 2024
  • Eletre S: 657 Licensed, 4 SORN, 680 Total registrations of which 509 in 2024
  • Eletre R: 505 Licensed, 5 SORN, 554 Total registrations of which 370 in 2024
  • Total: 1549 Licensed, 9 SORN, 1635 Total registrations of which 1136 in 2024
So there were more than twice as many Eletres newly registered in 2024 than Emiras and at the end of 2024 there were more licensed Eletres on the road than there were Emiras.

That ties in with what I was told by a dealer when I test drove the Emira in early 2025. I assumed that they weren't selling many Eletres but he said they were selling about twice as many Eletres as they were selling Emiras. He didn't sound very happy about that either.

It might also be interesting to know that at the start of this year there were over 100 Emira for sale on Autotrader (a load just then coming on the market through Auto100). Now there are less than 50 (excluding the adverts for new ones). Prices are up around £2000-3000 since the start of the year.

A third of those for sale are Senaca Blue, another third are Verdant Green and the remaining third split among the rest of the colours. Not sure if that reflects the colours Emiras sold in or which colours are more desirable second-hand.

Really small numbers. On one hand it's such a shame that so many factors conspired against the launch (not all self inflicted). On the other, its quite nice to own such an exclusive model. They are still a rarity on the road. With the end of the first edition, second hand stock and price rises, I don't foresee anything like the 2024 sales numbers for this year.

Yup, a well specced V6 is now the wrong side of £110k OTR - that is going to be a pretty hard sell. Combined the price rises with all the recent negative headlines about the future of Lotus and I expect the UK sales this year to be way lower. At least it is good to see that the slide in used values due to Lotus's over supply blunders appears to have been arrested.
