US dealer charging processing fee for returning deposit

Hi all - I have decided to cancel my deposit but my authorized dealer is charging me a 4% processing charge. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Seriously. We were quoted an expected estimated delivery date when making our initial deposit ("Spring 2022") and then again at spec ordering ("should be sometime in Oct-Nov"). I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds to me that since that date has been missed repeatedly, the contract is technically breached thus deposit money should be refunded fully.

If and when the Emira gets delayed again and I demand my deposit back, I fully expect it to be at 100%.

I’m guessing that you placed a deposit via credit card and it’s been a long time and the credit card processor won’t refund the credit card processing fees.

I always pay with a check. It's the most secure. They always pay back or else.

They could be hoping you won’t fight for the $100. It could equally be true that they are allowed to by the credit card merchant. If it’s a cash deposit then I’d stick to 100% refund.

Mine was paid with check and returned with a check, no fees.
