Is anyone else in the Uk struggling to get insured. The car is due in the next couple of weeks but its proving to be a painful process. I thought I was a good risk ,
4th Lotus
59 years old
8 years specific no claims
I do have one speeding fine , 3 pts ( 2nd fine in 40 years driving )
5000 miles
Social only
Locked garage

My three previous cars were insured with Footman James ( CCI) , they will not insure the Emira at all
Adrian Flux £3,585
Reis £1,400 plus £169 to protect no claims
A Plan will not quote until I give them a reg no
Couple of companies not replying to any emails despite being open
The meerkat search is showing £650 to £750 but I was hoping to go with a specialist

One call took almost an hour yesterday , wanted to know how long I had had each Lotus, what % of time in the car is split between me and my wife, does the garage have CCTV and alarm, inside leg measurement .

Should it be this painful ??

Any suggestions very welcome

I’m with Manning for my Evora and Exige, very flexible on mixing social, commute, business, track mileage if you want that. Plus they can do limited mileage and agreed value cover. Each of mine is about £400-450 annually for 3000 miles social plus 5 track days. I’ve not asked them for an Emira quote yet.

Other Evora owners are positive about LV and Admiral for normal daily driver usage or Classicline for specialist cover.

Have you tried the comparison sites?
I'm a bit younger (48) but was getting quotes from reputable companies around the £650 mark

I had a similar issue and was looking for a specialist with some easily accessible/ already included track insurance.

I ended up going with Admiral who I’ve used before and always been decent even when I’ve claimed. When I originally looked a few months it was around £650-£700 but I ended up paying £900 for Admiral Gold. That’s up to 10k miles and with commuting (10 years NCB and I’m 49) I upped the car value to £95k as well just to be sure! Adrian Flux couldn’t match and I didn’t think of trying NFU…

I had a look at LV but when you read their T&Cs (I’m fun like that) it sounds like you’re supposed to use their bodyshops which freaked me out… I could be wrong and misread that so feel free to correct me anyone?

Try AIB 023 8026 8351
+1 for AIB here, they were the most competitive for me.

If you have had your checkout email you should be able to request your reg number from Customer Care as it should have been assigned already.

Your quotes seem very high though, is Colchester a hot spot for car crime?

Mine came in as a single car policy with admiral at around £950 through confused. It will be the 4th car on my multi car so will likely go down a little bit, and I have also found admiral quite amenable to negotiating over the phone. My renewal a few months ago was £919 for the 3 cars and I just said I want to get it down below £850 and rather painlessly got it down to £823 which I didn’t think was too bad for a 27 y/o.

Have anyone had a quote for an automatic yet, my car is due for production in march and when I look on the comparison insurance sites I can go as far the transmission selection and there is only the manual option. I know I have a few months but just curious twiddling my thumbs waiting for the emira

Hi, I’m the same, auto for hopefully feb build, march del, I can’t see it being much more for an auto, I’ve had an IPS Exige and a Evora 400 auto, price’s weren’t bad in the past for these cars.

The auto does not have Type Approval in the UK. This is what triggers the insurance databases to start offering quotes. Once Type Approval is granted, Thatcham (who are currently contracted to do this), load the details into the systems the insurers use and the insurers algorithms kick in and quotes become available.
I would expect the auto to be broadly similar in cost to the manual for the UK. This was the case for the Evora and I think it is most likely to be the case for the Emira. I too am waiting for an auto with March build and April delivery, but I think the chances of that are very remote based on progress so far.

Thanks for the info it makes sense. So i hope lotus will pull their finger out and sort it ASAP just for my sanity I don’t want another delay 🙄

3000 miles a year? Are you pushing it around :) I do 12-15k easy. Lotus is by far the best daily driver you could ask for.

I haven't driven a car to work for over 10 years. I live outside London and commute by train or plane, so don't need a daily driver. Two Lotus cars with 3000 miles on each is plenty for weekends and road trips. My wife has two cars too so doesn't need to put miles on mine.
