Shifting in V6 manual

Watch this video for some great pedal action by Misha Charoudin driving an Emira on the Nurburgring. This is some fancy footwork, including left foot braking!

Wow THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for the replies and the enormous amount of information..

I never thought that my simple question would go 8 pages and spark such a great debate..

Thanks for all the great info and the debates..

I appreciate you all

I was practicing downshifting/heel-toe in traffic today on my way home from work and thought of this thread. 😂
i doubt I will be trying it.. but this thread has certainly helped with a lot of things..

As this is topic "shifting in V6 manual" I'd like to know what can be done or if there is a solution at all for my problem. :)

Past fall I was in the Dolomites with a group of enthusiast drivers, I was the only one with an Emira. Most of the cars were Porsches, e.g. Cayman GT4 RS with a DCT.

And of course I tried to chase them, this meant I also used 1st gear in the tight corners to get my Emira going. And what happened now several times?

Yes, I had a hard time getting into 2nd gear, double clutching and off they were. I found a solution for myself which is only partly satisfying, I shortshift / already change gear when I'm at 4500 rpm so I get into 2nd gear securely.

Is there any solution for this issue? Has anyone found a solution? Or is it a downside of the Aisin gearbox I have to live with and nothing can be done?

Would be interesting to hear your thoughts!

Sounds like your linkage is in need of adjustment. Whilst the 1st to 2nd change is a little bit slower and clunky, it shouldn’t be that bad. There is a thread on here about adjusting the plate just below the gear lever. May car is fine with all changes whereas my first Emira was not a good change at all, the cars do vary according to how the linkage has been set up. Take it to the dealer, it’s a very quick job.

When ever you try to fast / rush a shift from 1st to 2nd you will always get issues, many have noted this.

No 1st to 2nd issues on mine since a Lotus tech had a go at it.

Would be great if it only was this issue, I will have the dealer look at it the next time.

It‘s really only an issue when you‘re hammering it. In normal street driving I let the synchros time and it’s not apparent.

Just last night after not driving for a bit I noticed that shifting into 1st and overall got better as the car got up to temp. Overall though, no 1-2 issues after adjustment. It’s quick and sure, just takes more force that other manuals.

I searched and can not find this thread. Please share a link to it. My 1-2 is unusually stubborn.
