Porsche backtracking on EV only cayman

This only makes sense and is the right move on their part.

Now THIS is interesting, and obviously it's what every petrolhead was thinking would happen sooner or later. I must admit that if this was official when I was considering buying my Emira, it might have slowed down my decision.

Well, they really had no choice, since their EV sales have been collapsing. It was backtrack, or go out of business.
Win for the petrol heads!

Only for GT cars I believe, so probably $150-200k.
That's a worry. If it's like previous GT models, being able to afford one is not enough to get one. If they're the only ICE Porsche sports cars the prices and flipping might be even more ridiculous.

I wouldn't be so sure that's only GT cars.

They had to introduce the H-6 in the GTS for the 718 generation when it was clear that the customer base didn't really want the H-4. I would expect there to be and ICE GTS again.

I think it’ll definitely be interesting what they end up with. With them bringing back the ICE/Hybrid Macan, plus extending ICE Cayenne and Panamera life it may actually be difficult for them to hit the fleet wide CO2 averages if they sell too many ICE Caymans - hopefully they can get the ears of a few EU bureaucrats. Would be great to have another sub $150k manual, mid engined car on the market if they can do it.

CO2 averages are such a racket. You know the manufacturer doesn't have to meet the CO2 levels with their own fleet, right? Carbon credits are probably as valuable to Tesla as actually selling cars.

It would be interesting if the last solid market for ICE sports cars with manual transmissions were the United States.

It’s my understanding that new sports car buyers in continental Europe and the UK buy considerably fewer standard transmission cars, as a percentage of overall sales, than American buyers.

In any case, I’m glad Porsche will continue with gas powered cars. If the Emira didn’t exist, I would be in a NA 6 speed Cayman or Boxster right now!
