NEW! Emira Turbo SE (400hp)| 0-100 & 100-200 km/h accelerations🏁| by Automann in 4K

I’ve been saying forever that it’s all about the gearbox.

You want the fun and interaction of a manual box?
Excellent. But it will always be significantly slower in these measurements.

It’s not slower in gear, but when each gearchange takes 0.5-1.0 seconds instead of less than 0.1 seconds, and there are 6 instead of 7 or 8 gears what do you think is going to happen?

In my perfect Emira world there would be a supercharged V6 version with the DCT gearbox.

That would be the best combination of all, IMO.

I am sorry, but that's not true I'm afraid.

I measured my Emira V6 with 11,2s for the 100-200kph run, see attached graph:

100-200 26°C.webp

This is 3rd and 4th gear, it's taking me 0,3-0,4s for the shift. I needed 11,2s for the run. The above shown Emira does this in 8,7s! That's a whole 2,5s faster, let alone the shift it's still 2s faster. That is much faster overall, also in gear acceleration. It all comes down to the available torque. And the AMG unit seems to have plenty of it.

You’re ignoring the extra gear.

Ultimately do you want maximum performance or maximum interaction and sound?

It’s funny for me personally.
I came to the Emira from a 355F1 where most of the time I spent on forums was saying how much better and more “correct” the manual gearbox would have been.
Actually, I loved the F1 box on the 355.
Despite what YouTube wankers might say, it’s actually a lot of fun and takes a decent amount of skill to master.
And when you get it right it’s every bit as satisfying as the gated box.

So I came to the Emira thinking that the manual must be better, right?

And yes, I do enjoy the interaction.
Actually, I totally love this car. In my opinion it’s the best sports car money can buy without spending three to four times as much.

But I can’t help but laugh at how now all of a sudden because the acceleration times are better with the lesser engine the paddle-shift is all good…

The DCT not only improves performance because of reduced shift times, but the greater number of gears allows closer ratios which keeps the engine more centered around its power peak. A car’s current acceleration rate is directly connected to its current power output so even if the I4 and V6 have the same peak power, the DCT allows the engine to stay closer to that power peak as it accelerates. I wrote an article recently this covers all this in more detail.
