I recently watched an Instagram guy share his experience with owning a Lotus. He said he loved driving it, but also found some frustrating aspects.

He mentioned that once, while doing a repair, he took the car apart and found what he described as a strange mix of parts that didn’t seem to be put together as neatly as he expected.

I realize a Lotus isn’t a Porsche, but it made me curious: is this something people have actually found when working on them? I’m not a mechanical person myself, so I’ve never taken one apart to see the quality firsthand.

I’m guessing the build quality has probably improved over the years, so I’d love to hear from owners about their experiences, past and present.

What model and year was the Lotus?
I have had old Porsches and BMWs and parts were just whatever in a bin close by.
I had a 2005 BMW X5 that had a Muffler "suppressor/shock" on it that was not even supposed to be installed on an X3.
I only found out when it failed and made an odd noise, BMW told the mechanic to remove it - was not supposed to be there.
That said is I have not seen that issue with the Emira. Production numbers are really small for Lotus - and if you watch the Emira production videos the cars are still basically hand built. It is part of the charm of the car - in my opinion.

Yeah, I don't mean to talk bad about Lotus or anything. I love the car. I have an Emira. I am not sure what the Instagram guy had.
