I believe a dedicated thread is needed here as there are several Emira owners that have been caught out by a snap decision from Lotus to no longer replace PPF or Ceramic coatings under warranty claims for defective paint work (bubbling issues). Here is my story:

As a recent Emira owner, I really appreciate the valuable information on this forum.

I had to post as I am disgusted with Lotus after-sales care, and want to make other owners aware of potential additional cost as a result of factory defects.

I bought a used '23 plate Emira back in March 2025 in the knowledge that it had the paint issues across the doors, both rear wings and the tailgate. The previous owner had the warranty claim logged from July 2024 and also provided me with the email chain and confirmation. I continued the claim through the same UK dealership.

I finally got confirmation that the car would be corrected in August, the dealership arranged everything and as the car was fitted with PPF, they would replace this as part of the work. I provided the original invoice for the PPF work, and off to the paint shop it went.

After the paint work was completed, I received a call from the dealership to give me some bad news. Lotus HQ have now decided that they will no longer be replacing PPF or ceramic treatments as part of this warranty work.

Now, if I had been told this up-front, I would have been fully aware and factored in whether to replace this myself or not. I would not have been happy as nobody protected their car in the expectation that it would need to be repainted in the next year or so. Quite the opposite!

However, this has put me in a negative position despite agreement with the dealership that it would be relaced, Lotus have removed the PPF without any discussion to state that it would not be replaced prior to doing so.

I have escalated this with Lotus HQ twice and both times it has been rejected. I am now considering legal action. I am interested in what the Lotus and Emira community think, should I swallow this or do I have a case here?

Think be quite frustrating if it’s the case as I have one door done and another to be done and was advised by dealer to have PPF replaced on both wings at the same time

at the dealers/Lotus cost?

Your Statutory Rights (UK Consumer Rights Act 2015)

Right to a Remedy: You have a legal right to a refund, repair, or replacement for faulty goods or services.

Consequential Loss: If a fault in one part (e.g., a water pump) causes damage to other parts, you are generally entitled to have these additional parts repaired or replaced as well, as long as the original item was faulty.

Disclaimer - I am not a lawyer just someone that looked some stuff up on the internet, check with your own solicitor and seek legal advice before taking any course of action.

Disappointing. I had no issues getting them to pay for it at the beginning of this year. The service was pretty good. Only issue was the bodyshop needed a couple goes fitting the doors to stop the wind noise at speed (2nd adjustment sorted it and it's now back to being a quiet place at 70mph). The colour match was good too (blended into adjacent panels).
