Lotus halt all delivery to the US.

I am glad I purchased my 2025 Emira V6 Manual from current stock at Manhattan Motorcars. It was nearly my exact spec I had ordered at the end of February 2025. That being said, I cannot say enough about the professionalism of New Jersey Lotus returning my $5,000 deposit without any issue. They were understanding of the situation, and made no attempt to hold my deposit. Peter was very helpful and he has my respect and appreciation in how he handled the situation.

Wouldn't you want the car you specified even if cost a bit more? Once they sign and seal the 10% deal. the net difference is going to be 7.5% increase on the invoice to dealer amount (probably ~$80K) so around $6K. I think that between Lotus and the dealer, they will absorb part of that so the net difference will hopefully be under $4K.
Yes, I would like the car I spec’d, but if they haven’t produced it and have no intention of producing it, what am I supposed to do?

I wish Lotus would stop being so cryptic. My dealer advises an “announcement” forthcoming. We’ll see.

So far my dealer is refusing to refund my deposit, so it’s not like a have a choice except waiting and seeing.

Are they even legally allowed to keep your deposit if they cannot deliver you a car?

Depends on what the verbiage is in the contract. Most likely as long as the dealership is trying to do all they can to get the car...then no refund...unless they want to play nice.

Lotus New Jersey didn’t giver me any resistance in returning my deposit. My understanding is that without a VIN # the contract is really not “valid”. I feel your pain, every dealer I am sure is handling this differently, I am just thankful New Jersey Lotus did the right thing and returned my deposit without any no issue.

Do you have a V6 Base on order? Did you get a pdf order acknowledgement from Lotus with your order detail? Lotus did not stop production, (they may have slowed down a bit) so all V6 base that did not arrive before March 31st are either sitting at the docks or being build. Lotus is just waiting for the 10% tariff to be signed and sealed before they start shipping again. If you do not have an confirmed V6 base order then it's all up in the air as the next round of V6 base will be fore the rest of the world so who knows when and if they will have more av available for the US after that.

The car never made it into production, no VIN #, as my order was placed at the end of February. I was told it would not be delivered for 7 to 8 months, so essentially September or October. That is why I canceled the order and purchased my Emira from Manhattan Motorcars with essentially the identical build I originally ordered. Now I have the dull summer to enjoy the ride ! Photo from a recent coffee and Cars…

Sound like you actually missed the initial V6 base order and the dealer just took your deposit for a future build. Did you ever received the pdf from Lotus detailing your spec, if not, your order was not entered to Lotus., and will not be acknowledged until if and when US V6 base are scheduled to go back into production. I'm glad you managed to find one close enough to what you want sooner.

My dealer advises my car was “in production” from the instant I placed the order, even tho he cannot/will confirm I have a VIN or that I have an actually chassis on the production line, and thus he is refusing to refund the deposit.

If you are not willing to wait, take any paperwork you have to a lawyer. There is no standard sales contract - each dealer will have their own. I put down $2,500 three years ago, when it was first announced. This was always fully refundable. I put down 10% when Lotus informed the dealer that their allotment was open, and I was assigned a VIN number at that point, and it became non-refundable. Tariffs were announced after that, and I was sweating if the car would arrive before the tariffs kicked in, and it did; it was on the last boat that beat the deadline, but did take my sales contract to a lawyer in case, and it said they were selling me the car at a stated MSRP with an indicated amount, so if there were tariffs, they could not change the price. Others on this forum had verbage in their contracts that allowed for unforseen price changes. So it's a bit of a crap shoot.

As far as getting a stock car versus custom, there really are not many options. 6 cylinder manual or 4 is about the only one, though there are very few 4 cylinders selling. Then there is color. Boom, done. After that, everything is a minor color choice. Caliper color, stitching color, wheel design, custom floor mats, radio upgrade are all really trivial, and I have a hard time thinking that someone's enjoyment of the car would be impacted by not having the preferred color seat stitching. Only other one is sport or touring suspension. I chose sport, though did not drive them side by side, and if they secretly swapped in a touring suspension, I would never have known the difference.

Dust will settle on tariffs, either they get lowered, or MSRP goes up, and this all will be forgotten. Tariffs were 5%, if they go to 10%, that's only a 5% increase on the value of the car at customs, ie the price Lotus UK sells it to the importer, Lotus USA. You then have to add Lotus USA profit and the dealer profit before you get to MSRP, so the extra 5% is not on $100,000, but maybe on $80,000. So it's $4,000 extra. Lotus will not remove itself from the US market because of that - there is no one on this forum that bought an Emira at $ 100,000, but could not have afforded it at $ 104,000.

Personally, I think the Emira is undervalued. I also have a 911T which was $150,000 versus the Emira at $100,000. The Emira looks better, is more fun to drive, and I have to think a Toyota engine is more reliable than the Porsche engine, so I think it compares favorably. Sure the info-tainment system sucks, the brakes are slightly grabby, I hate the Emira key fob, they went through year 1 struggles with bugs, and the dealer is 90 minutes away .... but that isn't enough to justify a $ 50,000 discount versus Porsche. Emira is a bargain in my mind.

Very true on all pints- has anyone looked into how to moderate the braking grabbiness...maybe a good topic for a new thread. (no keyless entry is a silly oversight in 2025, my first car with keyless entry was 20 years ago)

Also agree the car is a really great value even, try not to sweet the tariffs the car is a blast, you will get your money back in enjoyment.

Did your dealer provide you with an order acknowledgement pdf detailing your config and price.

Not only keyless entry, but the trunk button is not recessed, so with the fob in my pocket, the trunk is occasionally opened, and I have to get out to re-latch it.

And then the stupid small attachment point for a key ring.

Still, add a V8 and a targa top, it’s a $150k car.
