Just super frustrated!

I am not sure, I was told that by the service manager at Lotus. I'll have more information in the next few days.
That's a paint scrape, if there's no other damage that would cost £100/$130 to respray here in the UK.

Sounds like the quote is for when you are going bill the transporter for damage. Try asking how much an out of pocket repair/respray would cost. One of these days, you're going to scrape it yourself anyway....

In my wildest dreams, never would thought this would cost:

OVER $7,000 to fix!

That is because of the repair facility you selected. Some of the "fancy" shops ask for a lot of unnecessary b.s. If you have the estimate i would be happy to tell you what is unnecessary, I have 20 years of experience.

I bet they wrote to replace the bumper instead of repair. Then they probably wanted to blend the hood and fenders, then added a bunch of operations that are impossible to determine if they are necessary before the vehicle is painted (color, and, and buff ...etc).

Personally I'd do 2 hours of repair and blend the paint within the panel.

I would not want them to blend into the hood and fenders. If it were me, I would take off the bumper and drop it off at the body shop for repaint. I would take a slightly mismatched bumper over a resprayed hood and fender.

That is an outrageous repair costs. I would ask them how much a factory painted new bumper from Lotus would cost? Do not let them blend in any other part of the car for this repair and document the damage well. If someone paint meters your car when you go to sell it your going to want to outline what the damage actually was. Showing it was a small scrape vs a front end accident repair is crucial, even if it doesn't show up on a car report. I wouldn't want to have a 7K repair bill to show someone on that damage, just not believable. There has to be another way.

Normally paint dries different shades on plastic vs metal, however the body panels are composite on the Emira.

OP should look at the paint at different angles to determine if the patch is currently different shades. Always easier when someone sees a difference before a repair vs noticing after a repair.

Save the estimate from. The body shop. Save the photos of the damage. Save the final bill after repairs complete.

I think @hagen111 meant that a car is still "a car", nevermind the price. Time, health, family and things like these are the really important ones, and a car is still something we can do without. As many others surely have, I've been through very hard times in the past years and I've learned to value those things the most. I can't but agree with that. This in NO WAY means I don't understand you, feel your pain and agree with it being a pain in the a** and a let down. We payed money and we're getting nowhere near what we payed for (my car is still being serviced!). Yet, it's still an object....At least, this is what I am trying to tell myself everyday!

Well the car came back with a great paint work. Can't tell where it was painted. The PPF was replace on the front end.
I do find it strange that I was not provided a detailed cost break down, other than the initial quote of 7,500. And was told in the end it dropped to 4,500.

They trucked the car back to me. It stayed at the repair shop for 30 days. I was so excited when it arrived! It was like getting a new car all over again! The car arrived on the 30th of August.

It was fantastic the repairs were done, the damage was gone. I couldn't wait to drive it again. Just a few hundred miles from the end of the run-in period.

I called the dealership/service department and thanked them for the work they did for the car in the handling the repairs. Then ask for an appointment to have the first oil change done on the Friday the 5th of September.

Yep, just a few days later: "Limited telematics services" error started to pop up! Was like okay, I know what that is, its not a big issues just drive the car and it should fix itself. (nope). The next day when the car was unlocked it made a squeaking noise. (hurray the car has gas) but it was coming from the front of the car driver side.

Called the service center and said I have some small issues also I would like looked at when I bring in the car. They said no problem.

Small issues turn into big issues, it seems. They said they need to keep the car for the repairs. They gave me a loaner car and sent me home. I live about 3.5 hours away from the service center. They will have the car for two week this coming Friday when they said it would be ready to be picked up.

I just did an excel spreadsheet ((nerd) yes I know). I purchased the car on 6/30/2025 projecting into the future 9/19/2025 I will have owned the car 81 days. It will have spent 56 days in the shop and just 25 days at my home. This is not including the 9 days that it took me to collect the car.

70% away at the service center! 30% at home!

This does matter but it doesn't matter, I just really, really love the car. On the drive to the service center, the last 80 miles in SPORT was heaven!

But there is a but, I really hope the "bugs" are being worked out soon, the love affair might have to come to an end.

I owned my 600lt 13 weeks and it spent 8 at dealer. In the words of toto* “hold the line, love isn’t always on time” and thusly lemon that shit asap.

Don’t hold the bag. Don’t be emotional. Exit and if you’d like to re roll.

YMMV (jk tho it won’t)

Oof, this thread is painful to read, you've had such bad luck. My Elise had a lot of teething issues in around 2008, which I fixed, and then it was a super reliable car until I sold it this year. Hang in there, it'll get better.

As for my Emira, this is the current state of my power steering. That's the pump you hear, not the engine.

You and @Orchardbike should start a elitist club, not one people want to join, but one you get selected for. "Those that have their cars the least"
