So I’ve had something happen only twice now but the noise is scary enough to me to worry. If I start driving the car it slowly goes away. Been 3 days now and no repeat. Anybody else have this or know what it is? I drive the car every day so this definitely isn’t a storage thing.

Not normal, Can you pull the engine surrounds to get a better idea where the sound is coming from.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending how you look at it, It hasn’t happened again. It sounded like it was down low though. Would likely have to see from the bottom and I need some predictability for that.

Is it possible that a screw or nut got free and was being tossed around back there? I’d check with a magnet pickup tool and see if picks anything up

It's too slow to be an engine knock, nor would a knock go away.

Keep looking

Its very rhythmic and not quick enough for valves or a fuel pump. If the oil is good Id lean towards some sort of foreign object in there.

I agree it's too slow to be a valve, or injector or rotating object in the engine. However, it could be something associated with a belt driven accessory that's running at a slower speed than the engine. Perhaps a pump, alternator or something like that is loose or has as internal problem.

Could it be the exhaust valve stuck/trying to move?

The rhythm and sound almost sound like it's something like a flap or a pump...

Isn't there some sort of pump (secondary air?) that comes on in cold start?

I had a different sound that was "fixed" with an oil change. check your oil levels and have the dealership look into it
