Oh boy.... Why are you doing this to me? Looks like that might be a must have. Any idea how this would stack up in direct sunlight/southern heat over time?

Very interested.

it will be made with optical hard coating on the topside so it should fare quite well. the material is selected for the heat of the engine bay and since its got many vents its should stay much cooler than the factory glass.

Can you see anything through the rear view mirror?

Interesting idea (thanks). Other questions and perhaps you likely won't know, until beta testing is complete:

1. no interior leaks with rain (while parked; and while moving forward; or in reverse)?
2. no leaks while washing car, if use the spray nozzle at the top and angled down (so water flows over the vents)? Or no spraying recommended?
3. ability to withstand removal attempts by a crowbar wedged in vents? (I know I know; crowbar could be used to smash glass; lol)
4. successful application done already with other vehicles (with no glass underneath the louvered piece)?

Other pics from different angles please, when you get the time. So far looks good, if no concern about losing view of engine, which many of us don't really have with the full black pack. TY.

So glad to see this idea come to fruition!! Looks great and looking forward to the thermal testing results and seeing the final production piece.

It's transparent so I'd think so. 😜

My OEM carbon louvered hatch obstructs the view a bit, but I have no issues seeing if a vehicle or object is coming up behind me. The benefits of a cooler engine bay, lighter hatch, and sportier look outweigh the cons IMO! The rear view mirror points directly through the louvers. Here are a few pics that kinda show the line of view... A clear louvered hatch would have near no downsides.

What was the logic applied in determining the width of the four margins? Any thoughts on making the side margins thinner (wider slits)?

There's a big difference between transparent and clarity.

I have windshield film on my Elise and the clarity is terrible. It's wavy and distracting. It's coming off in the spring because I hate it.

Your Evora has louvers aligned with the line of sight to the rear, so you're looking around the cover instead of through it. That's fine if this Emira cover does the same, but the louvers look much smaller and broken up.

I don't want to post statements that could be negative on this vendor's post because it's a cool looking product and if you want it, get it. But you brought it up so I'll say this, don't be too impressed with the "cooler engine" aspect. The engine is largely cooled by a radiator and the oiling system. A little more venting at the top of the engine than is already there isn't going to be measurable for a turbo let alone the engine itself.

1. its got holes in it
2.its got holes in it
3.what?
4.this replaces the factory glass as stated in the op
i don't have black pack or privacy glass (but i tinted everything together except for the rear glass).

it is a prototype and will be adjusted.
this is not the final product.

Ok hot shot.

Prove me wrong. I've been an aerodynamics and thermal engineer for 25 years. I love to be surprised.

Oh you mean the spine in the center? mostly for aesthetics... and the outer edge fitment.

The width of the spine too, but mostly the outer edges. My question comes from concerns regarding cracks caused by vibrations (I've observed what happens in my polycarbonate motorcycle windscreen) as this is a fairly large vehicle part. I understand this is a prototype, and many changes may be applied.

Oooh 560SL ...

Why post that.... maybe you are rubbish at your job!!!

Venting the rear glass will 100% lower the ENGINE BAY temperatures, and the engine should cool down quicker after driving as the excess heat has somewhere too escape (especially from the turbo). Having bonnet vents on my Renault 5 GT Turbo when I was a lot younger allowed the car to actually start again after a hard drive where usually it wouldn't. It won't lower the engine temperatures as that is controlled by the oil and cooling systems. Plus the vents look cool as. F40 vibes.

I'll try not to return your rudeness in kind. Notice that the Emira already has a slot between the rear glass and the hatch and along the sides of the glass already? Reread what I posted.

On the i4, would removing the engine bay cover but still channelling the cold air from the side vent (and blower) over the turbo keep it cool enough while allowing the excess heat to escape via the extra vents in this new lid??? Or is the engine cover still best to leave on?

yeah you would want to remove anything covering the motor.

Especially when tracking the car as the cover will trap and bounce the heat back.

being in Australia im sure you have experienced running a car without bonnet vents and with being vastly different for engine reliability.
