Emira finally on a CarWOW Drag Race

It was the Porsche that shat it's pants from being launched. The Emira survived some brutal launches and gear changes just fine. The electronics might be fragile, but the hardware is solid!

The Supra was fast for 320bhp? Maybe remapped? Or just an auto gearbox making all the difference. Really it should have been the i4 that represented the Emira in a drag race.

Oh and that Nissan is a terribly disappointing car.

Wow, color me surprised! (Except for the Nissan - that was expected). I think the test could have been so more interesting had all cars participated.

What it really shows is that the gearbox makes all the difference in a drag race.

There is no way any manual car can compete with a car with launch control and all you have to do is plant your foot and the job is done.

Have a look at the face of the guy driving the auto.
He looks bored as Hell, even though he’s “winning”.

Given the same gearbox the Emira would have romped it in.

All of that said, I really wish Lotus would offer a decent DCT with the V6.

I did wince a bit seeing my baby brutalised like that :)
I assume your car came back perfectly fine?
I think these cars are pretty robust from a mechanical perspective. The Toyota engine and drivetrain will probably out live the car. It's all the Lotus 'bits' that connect everything together that gives us grief.

If that was EVO magazine rather than CarWow they'd have waited to fix the Porsche and started again......

I was pleasantly surprised that it did that well in the breaking test as well.

The Supra’s 350hp is way under rated. They make more than 350hp. Combined with the Auto it equals way better straight line performance.

And I agree the I4 would have done way better.

Be interesting to see all three Emira variants in a drag.
A lot of sh1t talk about the V6 auto when basically ’no one’ commenting has had any time in one.
Its not a dct but in track mode balls out it shifts faster than any manual i have ever driven. I even had some wheel-spin on an upshift 2-3 trying to get the power down.
2.5 years in and loving mine (seats are still pants)

Without taking any credit away from the Emira V6, if they had used an i4 also with DCT, the outcome would clearly have been different.

The 382hp rated supra manual actually lost to the Emira V6 in the Hagerty quarter mile drag, 12.6 vs. 12.9
