3.5 Air Filter - did you know?

I went back to the dealer, and yeah, they said they made a mistake and gave me the correct filters. The Emira filters are more expensive than the Evora filters, and they were nice enough just to swap them. The Emira filters are both Lotus specific parts, no Toyota analogue. It looks like the...

3.5 Air Filter - did you know?

Oh, that's lame. I was going to put it in this weekend, haven't gotten around to it yet. I guess it's time to return this expensive piece of paper.

3.5 Air Filter - did you know?

The cabin air filter is Lotus specific, part A132P0156F. They charged me $49.80 for the cabin air filter, and $92.55 for the Toyota air filter.

3.5 Air Filter - did you know?

Edit: This is an Evora engine and cabin filter! The dealer made a mistake, don't buy these. Yes, it's for a V6 Toyota Part # 17801-31120 Very expensive piece of paper :) The cabin filter is also $50 (with banana for scale). It's tiny.

3.5 Air Filter - did you know?

I just bought an air filter at local Lotus dealer, and they sold me a Toyota part number (for 4x the Toyota price) without any kind of pre-filter.

GiroDisc Emira Slotted Rotors Initial Orders Sale

I wouldn't give Shinoo too hard of a time, he's done a lot to support us Lotus nuts. Yes, @GRP 's deal is much better, so go with that :)

    Auto only: Turbo vs V6?

We dinosaurs who like manual transmissions are a dying breed, and have to accept that some people simply _prefer_ a good automatic transmission. At a recent track day, I talked with a bunch of young guys who were driving Porsches very quickly, and they all got into driving real cars on the track...

    Hand Brake Dragging on Track

I've gotten my brakes super hot - the iron turned blue-ish, and the caliper paint changed color, but no, the parking brake doesn't drag at all. I've not worked with the parking brake on this car yet, but my other cars with an EPB have a calibration procedure for the electronic caliper (Subaru...

    Emira track impressions

It's standard to program displays (even analog gauges, which are all just digitally driven) to display a consistent temperature, voltage, whatever, because people are silly and complain to dealers if it ever deviates from the center. If something is actually wrong, idiot mode turns off and it...

MAP gets you boost pressure if you can figure out what the ambient pressure is (it's related to temperature and altitude). In my car, it goes from ~2 (meaning -12psi vacuum) to 20 (meaning about 6psi of boost) on the track. Yes, Solo2 DL is like any other full featured AIM product, it's got the...

    Emira track impressions

I'm just using the OBD-II feature in the Solo 2 DL, generic CAN, and it works great. It supports limited channels; RPM, Speed, TPS, PPS, ECT, IAT, Fuel Level, MAF, MAP. There's no Emira specific mapping of ID's, so maybe the car exports more. I've not had time to investigate.

So, on a different topic, I logged my coolant temperature (OBD-II ECT channel in AIM). We had 102F outdoor temperature, and I was pushing hard. The coolant temperature started out around 195F at the beginning of a session, over a couple laps rose to 211F and then stayed between 211F and 219F for...

18" wheels make tires more plentiful and cheaper. Since I still street drive this car, though, I would prefer to keep the parking brake intact. 18" wheels won't clear the motor housing.

    TPMS Question

There is no TPMS code to copy, it's just got to be the correct sensor frequency and protocol - meaning ,you need the right sensor. The sensor ID doesn't seem to matter to the Emira. I ordered a second set of wheels with their own TPMS sensors from @GRP and the car recognizes the new sensors...

    Emira track impressions

Porsche simply makes better engineered cars than Lotus. The 911 has weight distribution similar to an Emira, and the 911 GT cars will beat those better balanced Caymans. 911 is about 39/61, Cayman is around 45/55 and V6 Emira is 39/61, however, the Emira's engine sits more rearward than the...

    Emira track impressions

Yeah, I'm not sure why the Emira is so hard on the tires. I see signs of insufficient camber, and signs of overheating. The rear tire is scrubbed off on the outside but plenty of rubber elsewhere. The front tire is losing chunks of thread block.

    Streetable track tires

The correct pressure is another good question. I used a probe pyrometer on my tires until I found a pressure where the temperature changed linearly across the tire, that came out to about 34 psi in front and 36 in rear when hot. It similar to yours, and the center being 16F higher means your...

I'm finally getting the hang of driving the Emira. Here's some video from a recent track day, in high heat, about 100F temperature. Linking to my best lap, naturally :) The line is a little different than the Elise, since you're concerned more about setting up for applying power, than to...

The Heat Soak Problem and Revised Cooling

I've tracked my V6 on hot days, and I'm about to do a 102F track day this Friday, and I've not noticed heat soak. You have to let the car idle for a good 5 minutes after a session to avoid overheating the supercharger/intercooler but other than that, it did fine. If you don't let it idle, the...

Is anyone here running Nitron Fastroad or Clubsport suspension?

I went from touring to clubsport. It's significantly more firm, but the ride is pretty good. It's not as amazing at soaking up road imperfections as the touring suspension, but hugely better on the track. On the street, I like 8 clicks from softest in front, and 10 clicks in back. For track, 2-3...

Oh, that's terrible. In the US, that would be grounds for forcing a "lemon law" buyback of your car. You'd get almost all your money back with only 2,000 miles on it.

Who here has tracked their Emira?

Mine wear unevenly too, but not too badly. My Elise pads wore unevenly as well, as did the ones in my Focus RS. I just assumed it's normal.

Who here has tracked their Emira?

Brake pads rarely wear completely evenly on the track - the leading edge tends to go quicker, and yes, the OEM pads are no good for tracking. Try some EBC RP-1. They're quite good, and not too bad on the street, no major squeaking, just occasional reminders that they're track pads.

    KEF - wired vs wireless

Carplay is complex. It supports up to 48kHz 24bit audio on wired and wireless, but the actual bitrate you get could be lower as the phone and head unit negotiate one between themselves. It's totally possible a different one is being negotiated over WiFi. This is completely separate from...
