UK Government plans to outlaw modification of any road vehicle or non-road vehicle?

So I don't think they properly defined 'tampering' but read in the broadest way this seems to say original manufacturer parts only... cue monopolies and hugely-inflated prices.... But the inexorable lurch towards removing the driver from the equation continues, and many think (and want) it will...

    Emira Downforce

It's almost certainly 55kg total downforce. It's quite hard to find comparative figures online for the Emira's closest competitors, but the Cayman GT4 figure at top speed, with a rear wing, appears to be correct. A Ferrari 488 GTB generates 205kg of downforce at 200kph (124mph) rising to 325kg...

First viewing at Bell & Covill

... if I hadn't just bought a 2009 Elise SC, I'd be having a serious conversation with the wife about the chrome orange Exige Sport 410. I think it's utterly, utterly stunning, and is everything that Lotus means to me.

First viewing at Bell & Covill

So I managed to get to B&C last night to view the Emira. I have to say I came away underwhelmed. The car looks good from the outside - but I have to say some of the Final Edition Exiges looked absolutely stunning to me. But sitting in the Emira was a big disappointment: it really did not feel...

I snapped a quick photo of the magma red next to my Ferrari key which is painted Rosso Corsa metallic for comparison. It is slightly darker but not nearly as dark as it appears in the configurator.

...except it wasn't just a couple of petrol stations., at least not here. In Bromley all the BP stations were empty and closed on Friday morning - well before the 'panic buying' set in. There is still virtually no fuel anywhere in the vicinity today. Seriously, people here are spending the night...

First viewing at Bell & Covill

I'm booked in at B&C tomorrow evening, but now facing the stark reality that I might not be able to go. There has been no petrol whatsoever in Bromley - I wish I'd been able to find a queue to join; everywhere is empty and shut. I wasted half of what I had left in our family car today looking. I...

Base and First Edition specs and configuration options coming through...

I am assuming it's the lowered, stiffer sport damping setup, and that the 'base edition' would default to the touring setup. What I'm not quite clear about is what's included in the First Edition? Do we get all of the Lotus Drivers Pack, Convenience Pack and Lotus Design Pack? Or do we have to...

    Touring vs Sport suspension

I'm definitely in for the Sport setup. Lotus have a top-notch reputation for their suspension, damping and chassis setup - it's one of the things I'm not worried about in this car. But I guess it's down to taste - most of my cars have different suspension modes; none of them spend any time in...

Base and First Edition specs and configuration options coming through...

I'm worried. They are not getting their comms right - at all - it feels like a badly-executed mobile phone launch. Right down to the Steve Jobs-style reference to the car (I thought this had been exhausted and was now definitely not done). I think the quality of communication is utterly...

Dealer update - viewing and prices

Oh.. I placed my deposit directly with Lotus and haven't heard anything... I will get on to B&C.

Current Lotus Owners on the Forum?

I was able to vote "Yes. I currently own a Lotus" - but only just! I acquired a burnt orange Elise SC last week, planning to use it mainly on the track (it's kitted out with race harnesses, fire extinguisher etc. so should be the perfect track tool). So far I'm very happy - first track outing is...

Lotus Cars Finishes Funding Round at $2 Billion Valuation

A Lotus SUV? And all further cars Chinese built? 150,000 per year? This is just brand appropriation by the Chinese. I for one am not interested in the slightest. I am getting close to withdrawing my Emira depoosit.

What are you driving until the Emira arrives?

I just bought my first Lotus - a 2009 Elise SC in burnt orange. It'll be almost exclusively a track car (it has race harnesses, adjustable Nitron suspension etc.) Pleased with it so far; first track outing with it in a couple of weeks. For the road it's a Porsche 991.2 C4S and Macan Turbo, and...

What engine will you go with Toyota V6 or AMG 4? [poll]

I think Lotus have been a little disingenuous here. Only the V6 is going to be available at first; from launch, you will not be able to buy a £60,000 Emira, it will be at least £15,000 more than that, so it should not have been advertised as a starting price. I put my deposit down in the...

    What have I done?

Well I hope it's wrong, but here's the source from Evo - who I generally trust: "The V6-engined car will form the upper end of the Emira range, with a circa £75-85,000 starting price and rivalling more serious sports cars such as Porsche’s Cayman GTS 4.0 and the BMW M2 Competition."...

    What have I done?

    - For context, I had originally seen that base price at launch was < £60k and that the V6 would be available first, followed by the AMG 4-pot, so assumed I could get a fun, V6 manual track-ready Emira for around £70k depending on spec. Now that's looking like £95k.

    What have I done?

I also have a deposit down, but having second thoughts since I discovered the V6 manual is going to be £75-85k. That puts a lot of exciting new and used exotica into contention for the money - including a manual Gallardo or Ferrari 360...

What engine will you go with Toyota V6 or AMG 4? [poll]

Hmm, I hadn't seen anything on the price differential between the two powerplants so was about to ask what your source was - but just did a quick Google and found "The V6-engined car will form the upper end of the Emira range, with a circa £75-85,000 starting price" from Evo. That's a big...

What engine will you go with Toyota V6 or AMG 4? [poll]

V6 for me - and the availability of the manual transmission is the only reason I am in the market for the Emira (I already have several superb cars with DCT but miss a good manual transmission since I sold my Porsche 996). My deposit is down!

    Dealer vs Direct

Is there any difference putting your deposit down direct with Lotus via the website vs via a dealer? I did mine direct via Lotus and received a response that I should look forward to configuring my car in the Autumn. Any advantages / disadvantages anyone's aware of to doing it either way?

    Deposit down!

Yeah just a a quick intro. I actually only heard about the Emira after the FoS (I was at Snetterton that weekend for the Ferrari Challenge UK) but the prospect of a V6 manual with >400bhp with these looks? Fantastic. In a world where everything's going automated and hybrid this is a real breath...
