Hethel Yellow Lotus Emira Photo Thread

Was planning to do some glam shots when whether gets better but even in dim parking lot lighting this thing still looks pretty hot.

    OEM Wheel Cost

The "parts to whole ratio" in the auto industry can easily range from 300% to 2000%, i.e., if the whole car is sold in parts separately it can be 3 times to possibly 20 times (yes 20 times) of the MSRP of the car. Part of the reason is the layers of distributors who have to make a healthy...

    Autocar Type 135 news

One critical question about the looks of the Type 135 is whether it will have Emira style vents given that batteries lumped behind seats will require significant amounts of cooling. Would it be MORE cooling than what the M139 needs? One of the early renders appears to have gotten rid of side...

Why did you choose I4 over V6?

Other than the pricing element Lynchy73 touched upon, I've always been a Merc man over the years (owned C216 CL, W218 CLS, R230 SL and even a B class). I have also driven stick and auto over the years without much obsession with stick. Sound wise, V6 seems to win slightly but not enough to...

    Rear Wings

Having some past involvement in the carbon fiber industry, my view is: Dry/Wet carbon are not technical terms and are often used loosely to mean different things. It often refers to pre-preg carbon vs laying of resin over fiber through a "wet" process. The former can strictly control the...

    Getting the Emira under 1400kg?

Nice list. Now how about some hardcore stuff, like tearing away the various panels and accessories? BTW, apparently car paint is typically 5kg-10kg

    Getting the Emira under 1400kg?

Came across some Colin Chapman quotes lately, such as "Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere." So that got me thinking, with the current Emira being sometimes criticized as too porky, what are the best ways to lighten it in your...

    Bad News for China Sales??

Loosely, yeah. The status of the Zeekr 001 (under Geely) in China reminds me very much of the original Infiniti G35 or the E46 M3.

    Bad News for China Sales??

They canvelled that dating event fairly quickly I believe. Let me put it this way, Geely is the one Chinese auto maker that is most dedicated to chassis, handling and pure driving quality as opposed to others who focuse on space, screens, and gimmicks. Their big boss is one of us, I think...

    Bad News for China Sales??

Absolutely. And in relation to Lotus, it's interesting that even in this economy they have chosen to go the luxury route (even got an LVMH exec on their board) rather than Colin Chapman's purist philosophy. They went out of their way to play up this concept in their IPO prospectus. In fact...

    Bad News for China Sales??

For about 15 years or so, which coincide with China's recent rapid growth, women have become rather demanding on the dating market. Guys must own a house to have a seat at the table. Lavish gifts are a must. Popular TV shows would depict guys that shower women with money, houses and...

    is Emira a SuperCar?

For the longest time, I thought GT-R was the gate keeper of the supercar segment. But ever since the term "hypercar" was coined, I think the concept of supercar got much broader, much like in my industry a 28 year old can be a "vice president". In my view, to qualify as a supercar (but not a...

Lotus stock ( LOT ) given a thumbs down today on Barron's Roundtable financial show

The Emira is a much better buy (notice I did not say "investment") than Lotus stock right now. I wonder whether their LVMH connection will create wonders, though, especially with female consumers, since Chinese women absolutely swear by LV.

    First sighting of new Z

As former owner of an 2003 Nissan Z, I am really not impressed with the later iterations. Nissan lost Carlos Ghosn and has never had a single highlight in their offerings so far.

Lotus stock ( LOT ) given a thumbs down today on Barron's Roundtable financial show

You are absolutely right... that being said, policies can be a bit too aggressive and many governments/corporations are scaling back EV targets for a variety of reasons. Partly because batteries are not as environmentally friendly as people think, plus much of the world's electricity is still...

Lotus stock ( LOT ) given a thumbs down today on Barron's Roundtable financial show

I bet if they just stick an M139 into an Eletre (or whatever they have to do to make it a gas car), they would expand the lineup with a strong revenue generator right off the bat. It's not even that hard for them. Gas cars are coming back, as odd as that sounds. I have 2 gas cars and 1 PHEV...

19" rims/smaller tires bad idea? Any pic of Emira on 19s?

I can definitely do that, but I am trying to see if I could achieve a few things by going slightly smaller: 1. drop the ride height by a few mms; 2. lighten the wheels; 3. make the car look a bit bigger (Honestly 20" wheel seems to make the car look small); 4. a lot more options for...

Hey man I'm based in HK and Shenzhen. Im Chinese and went to college and law school in the States. i actually drove by Changzhou during CNY holidays when it was cold and rainy/snowy. Changzhou is a bit far from me but if you are ever in the Pearl Delta give me a holler.

19" rims/smaller tires bad idea? Any pic of Emira on 19s?

Been playing with the idea of going with 19 inch wheels and a slightly smaller tire size than stock (eg 255/35/19 or 235/40/19) which lowers ride height (and increases fender gap) by 5mm~9mm. Assuming no suspension change at this point. Am ok with the ride height drop but not too sure about...

oh FFS !! (v6 vs i4 debate in my head)

Well said. Another thing is i suspect many Chinese owners tend to live in big cities centers rather than the suburbs so emiras tend to see a bit more traffic when the i4 may be a bit more handy.

Not a huge fan of buying a $100K car for "kids" . Impressing generic kids is not that important to me. BTW MY KIDS are actually stoked about the new i4 so no complaints from the junior dept so far. Now on a more serious note, the i4 is sound is really nothing to write home about, but over...

    My predicament on suspension/tires/comfort

I believe 2.3 front/2.5 rear when cold. Goes up 0.2 after driving for a bit. Will try lowering a bit but rims could get a bit more vulnerable to the potholes. We will see.
