Maybe a bit premature, but has anybody hardwire installed a radar detector or have knowledge of such? Looking to see whether mirror taps, or fuse box taps have been successfully implemented and, if so, how.

Welcome to the forum @boostm3! Not sure if anyone has hardwired one yet, but there is a USB port up near the rearview mirror. We have a lengthy thread about dashcam wiring and mounting that might help. It's been years since I used a radar detector, so not sure if the modern ones can be powered by USB.

Thanks so much for that.. I use a Uniden detector and there is, indeed, a usb cable that would work perfectly!

I agree with @karl120c that this is the cleanest install. Also highlighting for those who plan on using more advanced setups with jammers, there is a fuse box in the front the other side of the firewall.

The Uniden R series won't power on via 5V USB, that's only used for firmware etc. Like Karl mentioned you'll need USB 5V to RJ11 12V step up if you want to do that, or hardwire to ACC in the fusebox.

Thanks all. WIth my M2 I had to tap into the wiring in the rear view mirror.. This USB port, located where it is, makes it a no brainer.. Thanks for all your posts. I got this!

I'm going to give this 5-12v one a try.. They have a 1.6ft version that looks tidy. Ordered.

Just received this.. It didnt work for me either untill I plugged it into a higher amperage usb port (computer). I guess we’ll see if the Emira has a decent output up there.

Tried the same thing. The 5V to 12V did not work for me (Escort Maxcam360c)

Going with the wiretap method

any updates on a direct plug and play option for using the USB at the rearview with a radar detector?

Just received this 5v-12v USB adaptor (12" cord) yesterday and it appears to work just fine with my Valentine 1, Gen 2. I had seen reports of these types of adapters not providing enough juice to work properly but so far so good. The V1 has a companion app that shows current voltage to the detector and it read 11.99v when I checked. Used it for an hour and a half yesterday and it appeared to work normally with no reboots or odd behavior that I noticed.

Not related to the seller, etc., took a week and a half to arrive in Southern CA.
