TL;DR - need to fit my CTEK trickle charger to the classic earth point instead of directly to the battery as it has likely caused a TONNE of issues.
Bear with me. I've had an Odyssey with my Emira.
I’ve had the front left sensor replaced but still detecting ghosts. I’ve had the car fail to start but think that it has, lights on, etc.
In August I had the car go into limp for no reason. This happened again in September and it went to the shop for 2 weeks. They thought there was a faulty immobiliser key. I got it back and 3 days later it happened again.
Two weeks ago the car would alarm every time I locked it meaning I couldn’t take it anywhere as I couldn’t lock it and insurance would be void.
Whilst waiting for Lotus to see the car I thought I’d take it out. Stopped by my local Starbucks drive though and what happened? As I drive in the display was turning off and on and steering felt heavy and weird. Placed my and thought “usually turning on and off again sorts it”. Turned it off, would it come back on? No. Not a thing. Car completely dead. No response from anything. So there’s me, sitting in a drive through, blocking it all off in my fancy car as people laugh at me. I wanted to die.
Eventually it came to life for no reason and I got it started and got her home. The AA man came out and couldn’t find anything until I asked if the trickle charger I fitted in March could cause issues? He had a look and the negative bolt on the battery where the CTEK charger is connected had come loose over time! This meant the earth cable wasn’t connected properly. ChatGPT has basically said this could be the cause of all my issues as tightening it back will restore the stable voltage and lo and behold, locking the car there are no more alarms.
I was about to hand it back and now I feel should I test it and see?
Apparently the negative point is best attached to the chassis earth but does anyone know how to get to this and how easy it is to access?
Thanks.
