where can i buy an OBD cable to connect my Emira (3,5l) to a laptop for diagnostics and clearing errors? please specify the specific model and manufacturer of the cable.

A generic OBDII interface device will only get you the generic codes. In order to use the Lotus diagnostic software specific for the car, EmiraDS, you need to use an SAE J2534 Pass Through Device with DoIP (Diagnostics over Internet Protocol) to connect a Windows computer to the OBDII port. Lotus recommends the somewhat pricey "Mongoose Plus MFC3-BT". I bought one but I'm waiting for the rugged Windows tablet that I also ordered for it. I fail to understand why manufacturers have not implemented OBDII diagnostics on the built-in infotainment interfaces. Imagine how helpful that would be.

Would you mind sharing your experience with EmiraDS platform? I am curious if one is able to perform module updates through EmiraDS or calibrations?

I hope to as soon as I have the complete hardware set up. I'm going to push most at verifying firmware versions and updates.

Lotus sells access to its diagnostic software as a rental service. You first must register here:

The first thing you must do after registering and logging in is to read their "Vehicle Service Information Read Me.pdf" It is important to note key phrases such as:

"Important: The Device That You Use to Purchase a Subscription Will Be the Only Device That You Can Use to View Technical Information or Access a Diagnostic Platform"

So if you plan to use a tablet in your garage to connect to the J2534 interface device (for OBDII access), you must also use it to purchase the software rental. They current rates are £20/hour, £50/day, £180/week, £800/month, £1800/year - for both diagnostic software AND technical documents. Yes, they nickel and dime their dealers these prices.

I hope you figure this out and determine how to make some software changes for the Emira, ALA Bimmercode and then sell them to the community. Sure seems that you have the knowledge.

Done. Already registered on the portal. Anyone already has a compatible passthru interface and was able to connect to the car?
I have some on the workshop and will give it a try. From what i've read, we are able to do the updates on most of the car modules.

I’ve finally obtained the required credentials and am sharing a few screenshots of the process. That said, none of the passthru interfaces I currently have were able to establish a successful connection, despite being J2534 and meeting the DoIP and CAN FD specifications. I’ve contacted Lotus support to inquire about this issue and am awaiting their response.

From what I understand, the portal appears to retrieve certain module version data via the vehicle’s internet connection, likely to cross-check firmware versions and available updates.

Additionally, I’ve confirmed that the tool allows not only DTC reading, live data monitoring, and basic configuration, but also supports ECU firmware updates across most modules — with the exception of safety-critical units such as airbag control modules.
