So someone decided to break off both door handles while we were at the staple center. Has anyone had to replace the door handles yet and if so was it easy? …Please say it was easy.

You will likely need to buy an outer AND inner door handle. The outer part will likely need to be painted if they don’t come in body colors from Lotus, the inner door handle is a pain in the ass to replace and requires disassembling a lot of the door card and the door card inner cover which has lots of screws and wiring looms.

I think it took me about an hour and a half to replace the door handle when mine broke.

Why would you do something like that?

Both sides! Being targetted?
Yeah, both sides make it look like targeted vandalism as opposed to acidental. It truly sucks that some people are capable of doing this, but there's a silver lining in his case if they didn't damage the door panels.

So sorry to see this happen to you.

I know it won't be of any help for this incident but, if you don't already have a dashcam with Parking Mode recording, it'd be a good opportunity to get one to capture or deter any future incidents (knock on wood).

I say deter because my Thinkware U3000 has blinking lights and I'd like to think it's made people at least think twice before wanting to damage my car and being captured on video.

And I've been on a cross country road-trip from SoCal all the way to Charleston and back, crossing through some pretty sketchy places.

Anyway, hope you get those handles replaced without too much hassle.

Brave man. Not sure this would have been my first choice of car to take to Staples Center. All the same, yes this sucks, looks targeted, and renews my paranoia about where I can park my car.

Thanks for all the support, yeah I definitely need to get a dash cam. I’ve been putting it off and now I’m kicking myself for it. Maybe a flashing light from inside would’ve been enough to deter the act, but who knows. The parts are ordered and I’ll just have to be patient. It’s a pain in the ass to pry what’s left out enough to get the door open.

Go figure it had to be on a game day. I was visiting a friend at circa lux apartments which I figured would be ok. Unfortunately, the structure is open to everyone and not just people from the apartment complex. It was packed.

LA's a jungle. Pretty much why I've been doing all my events with the San Diego Lotus Club (being that I'm in Orange County) so that I can avoid even driving through there. And not to discourage you from the dashcam w/parking mode (I've already PM'd @cryptovince for his knowledge on this, because I"m considering this myself! I currently have a dashcam but without parking mode), but my thoughts on a flashing light are this:
1. The car already has a flashing light on the dashboard. Albiet to inform of the theft prevention, and not alert someone they are on camera.
2. Ring doorbells (which I also have) are completely useless for identifying and/or catching any criminals. All they have to do is wear a hoodie and some kind of face covering (which they're usually doing anyway). And criminals seem to know that and have demonstrated they really don't care that they're on camera. So I'm a bit skeptical that a flashing light on the camera will do much as a deterrant, but I guess you could argue someone might choose to move to a different car in that case. I guess every little bit of deterrant could help in that regard.
3. Lastly I've had to ask myself what would my goal be with parking mode? In the case of Ring doorbells, most users' experiences are they they're really good at witnessing the crime, and that's about it. Is there any active intervention we could really take when it captures a hostile event that would change the outcome? Seems these things happen way too fast.

Sorry to (partially) hyjack your thread, I realize it was really about how to get your door handles fixed.
