I’ve got a 2025 Emira on the way but I gotta say these laundry lists of issues folks are having with their 24s is a major turn off. Has anyone heard if we can expect the majority of issues to be resolved for the model year 2025 cars?

My experience with my 2024 FE manual transmission V6, has been problem-free after less than 2,500km (about 1,500 miles). All I've done for maintenance, is the first DIY oil/filter change. I've taken the car apart, for door insulation/new tweeter install and the third cat delete...plus I'm now working on a new sub-woofer and doing rear sound insulation, so I've removed the rear panelling, etc. I mention this, because other than a few challenges removing/installing a few things, everything went back together AOK, so the build quality seems good from that perspective.

My dealership wants to see my car, for 7 software updates, however it's driving AOK w/o them.

Finally and given my experience with a 2024 MY compared to what others had with their 2023's, my impression was that Lotus learned to watch out for and correct most of the 2023 problems, which explains my experience so far. Hopefully for the V4 turbos, they'll similarly work out the bugs from the 2024's, for the 2025's. Time will tell, but given the enjoyable Emira driving experience, I'm willing to put up with a few problems. My 2 cents, although I count myself lucky, compared to a few unfortunate others.

My personal opinion, after all the issues I’ve had (and the ones I had with my Evora to a lesser extent), I’d still buy an Emira. Don’t get me wrong, my experience (and maybe even more so with the performance of Lotus customer care) has tainted me against Lotus, to my car and destroyed the pleasure I felt at buying a new car. But what are the alternatives? I’ve been looking hard at the Porsche Cayman but it’s way more common, and doesn’t really stand out/excite like an Emira. I can’t really think of anything else that comes close.

I had an F-type for 2 1/2 years with one issue with the steering rack. I had a 5 series BMW for 55k miles with no issues. I had a Jag F-Pace for 40K miles, no issues. I had a C class Mercedes for 60k miles, no issues and a E class Mercedes for 55k miles, no issues.

I accept that all brands and any cars can have problems, but Lotus seem to be one of the worst.

What is indefensible in my opinion is rubbish customer care. There’s simply no excuse for that. Lotus CC have now clearly decided to ghost me. I’ve sent them 4 emails in the last 3 weeks and I’ve not received a single response. I had my car for 6 days, they’ve had it for 4 months.

Don't get me wrong, I've been a long term owner of an Elise and currently have an Exige S and they've had their quirks and issues but literally not one thing I wasn't able to resolve in my own garage. It sounds like these Emira issues are of a completely different nature in terms of what's called for in getting them resolved.

Also take into consideration that the Emira is still a relatively new car to the market and it will need more time for support to mature with the product. This is especially true when it's lower volume.

I am confident the mechanical hardware of the car is still very much user serviceable and not that complex.

Yes, the electronics are currently locked down, but I believe that as time moves on, folks will be able to crack the code or engineer a work around. At least that's how it seems for new cars these days and my hope anyway. Food for thought.

Admittedly I haven't driven mine much but the only quirks I have encountered are the alcantara needing a trim on the passenger a pillar and when I first rolled down the drivers window it rolled right back up on its own. Its never happened again so I think it may have been its calibration run but who knows. My paint while a bit orange peely looks good and is getting correction and ppf as I type this. Other than that it seems pretty well put together. is weekend wheIll start putting miles on it thn its back from the shop.

I've owned mine since Aug 2024, bought it with 1400 miles on it, was registered in March 2024. Other than the drivers side window dropping back down every time I closed the door, I have had no issues.
I have no idea what may have gone wrong with it prior to me owning it and it was owned by Lotus, so am guessing if anything was wrong they fixed it quickly.

Just for balance. Mine has been more reliable than my wife’s Bmwi4.

The only issues so far in 4k miles
Cel light in the first week - went off of its own accord
Loose carpet trim, fixed under warranty
Rear indicator error once - went off of own accord

Has anyone had their Emira strand them? I'm not too concerned with electrical issues where a flash will eventually be available, but going out to start the car and it won't would be a big issue. I'm thinking of replacing a bmw with this as a daily. Dealer would be Eurocar so no loaners, unless I take it down to San Diego.

I've had mine for a year now and it's been fantastic. No problems. My only recommendation to anyone buying a new one, is to put the battery on a charger when you first get it to make sure it has a full charge. I replaced mine with an Antigravity battery from GRP which I'd purchased just before my car arrived, and I had charged it fully before installing it. No starting problems or electrical issues.

Nah don't even think about it

Well, my issues were:

Paint bubbling on both doors.
Water ingress destroying front loom
Water ingress destroying front fuse box
Paint flaw on bonnet
Damaged interior tailgate liner
Faulty battery
Intermittent failure to start
Failed driver side door mirror motor
Failed clutch bearing
Failed clutch
Faulty gearbox
Failed flywheel

I think that was it, but I might have missed some….
I am in CA no rain. Garaged 22h every day. Ceramic pro coated. Fine so far. You gotta treat it like baby :)

Odds in your favor everything will be fine. Internet distorts reality in my opinion. Software bugs can happen, just make sure dealer sends you home with the latest which seems to be sorted now. At risk of jinxing myself, have spent a lot of time on forums doing exactly what you are doing and trying to avoid problematic experiences. Overtime, I quit worrying about it as ‘most’ major issues with modern cars really seemed to be user error when all the facts came out. Tunes, cheap or missed maintenance, low oil levels etc.

Have had some older astons, a couple mclarens, lotus, ferrari you name it. Honestly never a single real issue with any of them and all were drivers. I was picky on examples that were used, made sure the services were all base lined, proper warm up, check oil occasionally and enjoy. British cars always have bugs first model year or two that get sorted.
