Lotus Emira i4: High-Octane Efficiency from a Compact Powerhouse

Interesting read. If the new aluminium subframe houses the new rear suspension, presumably the i4 suspension is different to v6?

I've got to imagine most if not all the mounting points are otherwise exactly the same. Why complicate manufacturing and assembly? A lot of things other than the engine / transmission and suspension attach to the subframe.

Fuel related items, tons of harnesses, roll bars, power steering lines, battery cables, coolant hoses, oil cooler hoses, brake lines, underbody, trunk, body panels, etc.

The Al subframe is stated as cast, so I imagine much cheaper to make as well as lighter. It might just be that with the expected volumes the i4 justifies the investment whereas the V6 gets a jig welded steel subframe, stronger, heavier and more expensive. That also suggests that the V6 won’t be in production for very long maybe?
