✅ Solved Key fob battery replacement

Hi there, anyone replaced the battery of the key fob already? If yes please advice.. I’ve pulled it apart but no battery to be seen just the print plate with the buttons on it. Thanks

Sounds like you may have pulled the wrong side off the key.

Such a shame this stuff isn’t covered in the Owner’s Hand Book

I've had my Emira just over a year, I don't daily drive it but yesterday I noticed I had to really press the fob to unlock and lock the car and today it seemed to have died! 2nd key works fine so battery must be dead already!

I just tried this, and it’s annoyingly and unnecessarily difficult. The manual advises using a fingernail, but your nail will come off before the cover will.

Ultimately I was able to use a guitar pick. Well, two picks. One was small enough to pry the edge up, and then I wedged a thicker one into the gap to pry it off. There are four plastic retaining clips: one at the wide end by the lotus logo, two on the skinny end, and one in the middle.

Two quick tips I have for anybody messing with the key:

1. The easiest way I’ve found to get to the emergency key is to open the trap door per the manual, turn the key upside down, and give it a tap with your finger. Should drop out easily. I have no idea how you’re expected to pull it out with your fingernail as the manual instructs.

2. If you have a misadventure, break a clip, and try to superglue it back, isopropyl on a magic eraser will remove superglue residue without damaging the piano black plastic. Though to be honest I wouldn’t bother as the clips are unnecessarily strong and having fewer may be a benefit for future battery changes.

Had to be really close to the car to unlock / lock, plus dash kept saying key wasn't in the car....
Had mine since December 2022

Yeah it's literally a 30s job but need a sharp knife to prize it open as they don't give you any kind of dent to get started. You also feel like you are going to break the whole plastic piece when you follow the manual instructions to pull it off but it actually clicks off ok and goes back easily

please dont use a knife. follow the steps outlined in this video i made.

Interesting.
I don't leave the Scorpion tracker fob with the garage so they wouldn't be able to change mine.
There is a section on the service sheet under general maintenance that does say:
"Renew alarm transmitter batteries (check with customer)" which is recommended annually.
I'm presuming this is the Scorpion fob battery but could be the normal key fob.
Incidently, the Scorpion unit itself has a rechargeable battery that should last a minimum of 3 years.
For the normal key fob it's easy enough to change yourself, I have a couple of spare batteries handy.
If the battery replacement is part of the fixed service cost I'm ok with it but if they are charging dealer rates it will be an expensive battery.

The fob batteries were changed at no extra cost to myself The only thing i ve paid for are tax and insurance and fuel in the 2 years and 4 months that I’ve had the car so very happy days

When I booked my second service with Lotus in Bristol I was asked to bring my spare keys with me for the batteries to be replaced, I didn’t know that was part of the second year service but was pleased it was.
