With the advice from someone on this forum, I switched from Progressive to Grundy Insurance. They seem to specialize in collector/classic cars and such. My six month premium for the Emira at Progressive was $1000 if paid upfront. With Grundy, it's an annual premium of $1200, which is an $800 savings annually. This is not a commercial.

I had to give Grundy... the insurance dec page for my Tundra which I daily... and photos of the Emira garaged, in my case stored, so I guess there is the requirement that the Emira be a secondary garaged/stored car for this particular rate. However, there weren't any mileage requirements.

To whoever provided the heads up on Grundy, thank you.

Another benefit of Grundy, is that they will insure modified vehicles since they deal alot with classic/collector cars. Google AI says they are experts in providing custom policies for modified vehicles. But I haven't actually gone through this process. From my understanding, you provide a full list of all modifications to the vehicle, and then have some sort of inspection/engineer's report given to them. Then you get a custom policy that reflects the value of your modified vehicle benefits and risks included. The price usually goes up but they can't blame modifications to void your policy in the event of accident/fire/theft etc. and you can actually recoup losses for modified parts. In some cases, modifications can lower your policy. I've read somewhere that someone's policy went down a few bucks after getting bigger brakes. (Would love to actually see that..)

So... given that most of us modify our cars... and we don't wanna be stuck trying to disassemble an engine in the state of shock on the freeway with 2 dead motorists, is it worth trying to get this custom policy? Have any of you done it? Any particular mods that are blacklist?

Its an agreed payout. Just amend it to cover what you have in it if you are worried.

Yup, exactly this. I also switched to Grundy (from State Farm) because it saved me ~$550/yr, but more importantly, Grundy provided an agreed value for my Evora GT. My premium spec GT with bespoke paint, carbon pack, and 3 pedals would fetch a lot more than your average Evora and State Farm wouldn't recognize that. But yeah, mods don't matter to insurance. Just factor them into your agreed value.

I moved from State Farm to Amica last year and saved a few hundreds of dollars on premium. I have 2 cars + homeowners' insurance, and they offer multiple line and multiple vehicle discounts. Just wondering if you moved all your insurance to Grundy or just the Emira?

I moved just my Lotus. I have 2 other vehicles and home owners with SF still.

Personally, just the Emira.

But I noticed something, the Grundy policy is just collision and not comprehensive. Currently…

So, there is no such thing as voided coverage due to unknown modifications?

Thats my biggest concern, more so than getting anything back for mods..

FYI, if you call Grundy and talk to their underwriters, the agreed value you ask for is not going to always be the agreed value you get.
they hit it with a multiplier depending on vehicles mileage/condition/etc.
underwriter told me they usually payout only 80% of that value.

Well what's the point of an agreed upon value if it turns into a negotiation after an accident? Seems a bit bait and switch.

I have 4 cars under grundy. Excellent insurer.
But be aware, you're not suppose to daily any car under their coverage.
If you have enough cars, none of them will be daily ;)
