I want to love this car. I’m a first-time Lotus owner and aware that these cars can come with some quirks like the double gearshift push to engage Drive or Reverse, etc. — part of the experience, I figured. I have been enthralled from the first time I saw the car and was excited to select and purchase my car.

That said, I purchased my Emira on January 23rd, and after just a few miles of driving (literally), I experienced a check engine light. The car was returned to the dealer and, I was told, a thermostat was replaced. Due to parts availability, I didn’t receive the car back for about 7 weeks.

Shortly (literally just a few days) after getting it back, the check engine light returned, along with a right rear taillight warning. The car went back to the dealer again, and I was informed the thermostat was replaced a second time. That repair took another 3 weeks.

Unfortunately, within just a few miles of driving after that, the check engine light returned yet again. The vehicle is currently back at the dealership and has been there for the past two weeks.

In total, I’ve had possession of the car for only a few days across nearly 3.5 months of ownership. I’ve also been in contact with Lotus corporate — while initial conversations seemed promising, they’ve since shifted their position and are now focusing on continued repair attempts.

I’m sharing this here to get insight from those who’ve had more experience as I have now had to hire my friend and attorney (also a Lotus Emira owner) to help me get the vehicle replaced.

Is anyone else having similar issues? Any helpful suggestions?

As mentioned on other posts here, I had mine for just 6 days and it’s now been in the dealer 4, 1/2 months (and counting)

No, different issues. Failed clutch bearing, failed clutch, failed flywheel, failed gearbox, failed loom, failed fuse box, doors replaced, failed battery, failed drivers side door mirror motor. Software updates.
