Well, after enjoying a "honeymoon" period of sorts with my long-standing current insurer, State Farm, I suppose they've decided I'm having way too much fun. After full year of $1,388/yr ($116/mo), they've decided to jack my rate by 85%. Starting this month, my new rate is $2,574/yr ($214). No explanation and conveniently my agent is out the office. This is with "full coverage" limits of 100k/300k/50k and $1000 deductable for both comp and collision and low mileage per year as a weekend car. Suffice it to say I'm back to shopping around and could use some input from those in So Cal only (for the best comparson to my particular area). What are you folks in So Cal (Orange County and surrounds) getting for rates these days and where?

Grundy is super low cost but only if you wont use the car for work or errands. They also take several weeks to approve your application. Hagerty is more expensive but more lenient on use. They approved me in a day.

I had the same problem with progressive, after I already left for State Farm, Progressive was able to give me a comparable rate. I said maybe next time.

Huh, work or errands? What are their other categories and how would they know?

Thanks, but I'm a bit confused. Are you saying Progressive jacked your rate substantially, then you dropped them, went with State Farm, and AFTER you did this, Progressive came back with a comparable rate to State Farm? If that's what you saying then, some questions: When you quoted State Farm, did you ask them for a competitive quote from what you used to pay for Progresive? And how long ago was this? And what location of the country (your profile image says TW but looks like you're in the US?).

If you have USAA or any parents/spouse's parents that can pass it down, it's amazing! Absolutely unbeatable prices and great service. They don't have "agreed upon value", but they do have an option you can add an additional 20% payout on top of what they will pay you for the car. Didn't cost much more.

Before:
2016 Mercedes GLC300 + 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
$971.72/6mo

Currently:
2016 Mercedes GLC300 + 2024 Emira i4 (with additional 20% payout)
$1,398.99/6mo

So my State Farm agent just got back to me and it's solved but I'm not happy about their seemingly new tactics. Seems they arbitrailly changed my mileage from 400 miles/year to 10k miles per year. I didn't do this. When I questioned them on this, all they could say was "It was changed at the renewal. They go by the national average. It is not a problem to correct it to the date it was changed." And this mileage change resulted in an 85% increase in premium, geez. I'm on a monthly account with my other cars and insurance and not always watching this like a hawk. Now resetting this back to my more reasonable mileage of 1k - 2k per year, it's come back down to earth at $130/mo. I just did a comparable Haggerty quote online and it came in at $155/mo. So sticking to where I am for now. Thanks for everyone's input and sorry for my fire drill!! Looks like I need to watch these guys every minute now.

I’m paying 1400 with progressive. For the Emira. In OC.
So curious about this as this is still lower than my now corrected State Farm rate by about $160/yr, what are your deductables (comp and collision) and liabilty coverages? Mine are 100k/300k/50k and $1000 ded on both comp and collision. And for what annual mileage?

$826 from geico for 6months for me. Mar vista. So $133 a month.

$214 a month is ridiculous price.

I always chose the best repairer for my Porsche and Geico so far is excellent.

Yes you understood correctly. I did this about 4 weeks ago. I told State Farm my coverage and price at progressive and they were able to give me better coverage and better price than using progressives online quoting. I moved all my insurances to them (2 cars and condo)
