Well, I went to victory lotus with my wife to take delivery, as per the signed $2500 deposit agreement, and was told that the dealership owner had taken the car personally and shipped it to himself in south Florida. Despite my reserving deposit on the specific car.
I told them mistakes happen and I was okay waiting for it to be shipped back, and they told me he wouldn’t be returning it to me.

They then tried to upsell me to a +$20k limited edition.

When I told them they owed me the original car or a mechanically equivalent new emira at the same price, they told me they could sell any car to anyone they want, with or without an existing customer deposit, and that they owed me absolutely nothing. they then hid in a room with the door closed until we left. They’re now unresponsive.

I’ve maybe bought a dozen cars in my life, and seen plenty of hijinx, but this is by far the worst.

For anyone considering doing business with Victory Lotus: don’t. They are the worst of the worst.

now looking for alternatives, likely at a considerable premium due to lack of availability and model year msrp hikes. Bummer!

But still really excited for the car itself!!

Uhhhhhh, you got any terms signed?
I wouldn’t stand down so easily lol.
Are there other dealers near you? Even if you manage to get the car, they sure ass shit won’t do any work on it afterwards, so thats to be considered too

Oh, I’m not standing down. Yes fully signed agreement by both parties. They’re nuts.

I filed an nj dealer licensing commission complaint and an investigator has been assigned. I’ll also sue them for the difference in price (or for additional warranty if I have to buy used)

But in the meantime I need to find another one! That’s the fun part!

There’s 3-5 dealers within 30 miles

Wow, to what happened but also that you have so many dealers within 30 miles - way more than in the UK 🤪
I leave very near Manhattan, so we are fortunate. That said, in some directions, 30 miles could take 2 hours. But hey, pros and cons!

What a horrible place. Run! do not walk away from a dealer like this.
Had a similar experience buying a Jaguar XF when they first came out. Signed all the paper for a new black on black XF. Went to pick up the car and they pulled around a black with orange interior car with 5k miles and a bunch of scratches and wheel rash. Told me only the dealer owner gets a new car and I would get his dealer vehicle.
I tore up the check in front of the salesman and cancelled the sale. Immediately called Jaguar corporate where I was told they had no control over dealers, and I was on my own. They did not even want to know which dealer. simply did not care.
Worked out in the end. dodged a jaguar depreciation bullet.
Never looked at another jaguar again.

WTF man I frequent that dealer as I get some service done there. I love the techs there but from a customer service standpoint they leave at lot to be desired. But for their sales team to do this? Wow.

That is a incredibly crappy for them to do that and to not even try make it right. I would be super pissed if I took a flight and was hosed at the end of it

I have another one on way, slightly more money +shipping costs, but similar mileage and was just titled a couple weeks ago.

I will sue Victory in medium claims court (lol a real thing in nj!) for the difference in cost x 3 for bad faith. Also, NJ MVC dealer licensing division has assigned an investigator so, hopefully karma hits.

It’s a one day thing, I’m a non practicing lawyer (work in finance) so at least I’ll use my law degree briefly 😂

The new one is Seneca blue with yellow calipers, yellow stitching, black on black alcantara, Alcantara wheel. Still 6mt sport suspension

Was your deposit non-refundable? If it wasn't, then it wasn't a deposit, it was an order which moves it from a place holder (which is really what a deposit is) to a contract and they are bound by the terms whether they like it or not.
