Lotus Emira V8 in Testing & Other News

I listened to the call. They're "investigating" a Euro-7 compliant V8. "investigating" comes years before sales. It'll be a while.

Lotus Emira V8 in Testing & Other News

Well, this is going to be expensive, but if a V8 6MT Emira is released, I will take whatever depreciation hit mine has, and buy one.

The two main track day insurers in the US are Lockton Affinity (link) and Hagerty (link). They are quite expensive, and have high deductibles.

Oh, that sucks. Progressive and Geico refused to insure mine. Progressive because they don't insure Esprits, they're too old, and Geico said they don't insure those cars.

    Emira track impressions

AFAIK, other than the low oil pressure warning, which doesn't use an analog pressure sensor, the car doesn't know the oil pressure, so there is nothing to read.

    Emira track impressions

No, Evora doesn't work. I just use the generic OBD-II and it's good enough for me. It gets RPM's, throttle opening (which isn't same as throttle pedal) and a few temperatures and fuel level.

If you have an Emira, why would you ever drive something else if you don't have to? :) It's now my daily, and I use my big car for family road trips, but the Emira for everything else.

I got the clubsports. They recommend a rebuild every 10 hours of use on track, but I'll do it once a season. If they are too stiff, I will ask to lower the spring rates then. The tires are Dunlop Sport Maxx Race on forged wheels from Greg's Race Parts (they actually look too nice to track, but...

I haven't yet. On my next track day, I'll be using some Nitrons combined with a solid alignment/corner balance and grippy tires. Might be good enough. I don't particularly mind this understeer tendency because it can be managed.

Dang. I'm in CA paying about $1,900/6 months with an $5k deductible and comprehensive insurance. No tickets or accidents on driving record, ever.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 issue

The TPMS is ok for the street, but to save battery, it only measures and reports pressures once in a while, and when you're at the track, they're all over the place. I still use my trusty old track pressure gauge. As a first attempt, I ran recommended street pressures as my hot track pressures...

Carplay volume glitches with driving directions

They certainly didn't simplify anything like the company motto implies when they designed the volume sliders on this thing. I hope that in due time, we come up with enthusiast written software that works better. I've written this kind of software years ago, and there are a bunch of VWAG cars...

Carplay volume glitches with driving directions

For me, it's a combination of Waze combined with either Podcasts, Pandora, or just music in my library. The reason I think it's a bug in Emira software is that I I've never had this issue with this phone in either my wife's Subaru, my Cayenne or even the CP-71W headunit in my Elise.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 issue

Oh, it was Laguna Seca. I scrubbed quite a bit of rubber off, and I mis-spoke, it was the front right. I haven't yet worked out the proper pressures for this car, as it's new to me, and I scrubbed the middle of the tire too much to risk another track day. It's ok for the street. I would have...

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 issue

These are Lotus specific ones at Tire Rack (link) They're 240 treadwear compared to 180 for a lot of other cars. I bought a set to try on track, they're not bad, but my front left is too damaged after one track day to go to the track again.

Carplay volume glitches with driving directions

When I'm using Carplay, either wired or wireless, with driving directions, I have a funny problem. When I'm listening to music or a podcast, and the driving directions from Waze or Google Maps speak, the volume is lowered to hear the directions. However, the volume doesn't return to its previous...

    Disabling steering wheel touch controls?

It's a hybrid touch/button. The entire panel on each side of the steering wheel is a switch which depresses, and it reads your finger position when it's clicked to figure out what you're pressing. The problem is that the whole thing is so easy to depress, you're always hitting it with your palm...

    GRP Forged wheels look awesome

    911T vs Emira

I drove a friend's 911T (since dealers don't allow test driving these around here) and also Cayman GT4 when I was cross shopping cars last summer, and I preferred the Emira for two major reasons. The front end feels much more "alive" than in the Porsches and it takes a squat in a turn similar to...

    GRP Forged wheels look awesome

It's really hard to tell on the street. This is a big, heavy car and the wheels went from "very heavy" to "less heavy", but they're still heavy. I can't push too hard because the tires are still slippery due to the manufacturing lubricants. I'll know next time that I track it.

I'll add a few more data points here. My car is the 6MT with touring suspension. Some observations. - OEM fluid can't handle the heat of track duty, even when it's fresh. I got soft pedal on 1 day old fluid from dealer. - EBC SR-11 brake pads have too much friction for street tires, they're...

Emira arriving in April, coming from a Mac 720s

I test drove a bunch of cars when I bought my Emira, and my top two were the Emira and a Mac 600LT. I enjoy the track, and do it a lot. Looking into the McLaren costs, it was kinda nutty. The car was a CPO, meaning, fully warrantied by McLaren. To stay current on the warranty, you needed to pay...

    Diamond Cut - Curbed Wheel

That is an easy fix at a reputable wheel shop. I've had much more extensive curb rash fixed on similar looking diamond cut wheels on my Cayenne, and it cost me about $150/wheel in the bay area of CA, which is an expensive area. It's no big deal, you just need to do some legwork to find that kind...

I have a perfectly sorted Elise that I can track hard, but I can only keep one Lotus, so I'm selling that one, hence, putting some improvements into the Emira. It's not a RHD car though, the US doesn't allow importing cars not built for the US market.

Or a larger tire in front :) The car is reasonably balanced, and I think it will be faster because, on street tires, I'm working less hard to reach lap times which are much more difficult to achieve in the Elise.
