Prices increase update from Lotus - and stopping of reservations for V6 FE

Yes not cheap thanks to our luxury car tax, though those prices are in Australian dollars not USD. Aussie buys about 67 cents at the moment.

Now, yes, but for a long time they had partly built cars sitting in yards while they waited for parts to become available.

Prices increase update from Lotus - and stopping of reservations for V6 FE

Yes, our V6 deposits were non-refundable. Lotus previously announced that Australia's FE V6 allocation is fully sold out, so presumably all V6 orders have been "confirmed by the factory" per the email below. Communication reads: By now you will no doubt have seen / heard that Lotus released...

Prices increase update from Lotus - and stopping of reservations for V6 FE

But the V6 isn't going up in price for deposit holders in Australia? The local distributor has said they're holding the price on V6 deposits and only passing on 50% of the wholesale increase on i4 deposits.

Emira Issues - from final production cars

Are there? I've heard of some poorly fitted window seals on the earlier cars but haven't heard of "many reports of windows leaking". You've canceled your order and purchased a Porsche. Fine, that's a totally valid choice. But why do you keep coming back to this forum (9 posts) to tell us...

Prices increase update from Lotus - and stopping of reservations for V6 FE

Only because a very clear and specific promise was made. I think that without that pledge, people would have grumbled but understood that costs had gone up. But what's the point of making a promise if you're not going to keep it?

What's the longest you've heard someone wait for a new car?

How quickly we forget! Lotus UK was hit by a perfect storm of reasons for a delay: COVID, then Brexit, then the global labour shortage, then the Ukraine war. And just when things were improving, China went into a massive lockdown hitting the supply chain. With hindsight, could Lotus have...

Emira Issues - from final production cars

Isn't the rust on the green Emira's rotors just normal surface rust from washing the car? Surface rust can appear on a rotor within a few minutes and just gets scrubbed away when you next drive the car. Some detailers take the car for a 30-second drive after washing, and hit the brakes a...

What's the longest you've heard someone wait for a new car?

Tesla started taking pre-orders for the Roadster in 2017 with a US$50,000 deposit . . . still hasn't delivered a single car. Aston Martin Valkyrie and the Mercedes AMG One were sold out in 2017, with many still not delivered. In fact, AMG only delivered the first car to a customer last month.

Anyone got an Emira with zero issues?!

You certainly shouldn't be waiting a month for an appointment at a dealer, that's completely unacceptable for a brand-new car. They should have had it in the shop immediately.

    Stuck in first gear

True, does feel that way. But the transmission (gearbox, clutch, cable, etc) is well-proven in this car, so I suspect this particular failure falls into the "bad luck" category rather than pointing to some larger systemic problem

    Stuck in first gear

Interesting. Almost certainly a clutch issue, given that the gears are brand new. Let's hope someone didn't fail to properly fill the transmission fluid!

Service and parts availability in future?

Spot on. I think it's a pretty safe bet that the UK ends up pushing back its 2030 sales ban. Even ignoring the issues around lithium and cobalt availability, the world just isn't rolling out charging infrastructure quickly enough. Depending on which numbers you believe, about 30% of UK cars...

Configuration mistake on my delivered car - and Lotus won't take responsibility.

    1. How would the insurer even know it had been replaced? 2. The glass now matches the spec the car was sold with. It is not different or modified. 3. It was done by the manufacturer. 4. It's a standard Lotus window.

Emira Issues - from final production cars

Dealers are definitely having challenges with the reflash of the ECU. According to my dealer, the reflash is coded to the VIN of each vehicle which means they have to re-download the update software for every single vehicle. Apparently, this can take 3hrs+ per vehicle. If there is any issue...

📓 Journals Diaries of the first Lotus Emira picked up from Hethel - V6 FE - yellow / ice / silver / sport

Maybe stay away from this forum for a week or two before making a decision? It can sometimes be a bit of a "negativity echo chamber". Yes, there are unquestionably some early glitches, but they will get sorted. It's not really a massive surprise for the first few months of production of a...

Lotus EV bankrolled by world's richest man!

Actually, having done a bit more background reading, I suspect the presentation has chosen its words incorrectly. I don't think the Emira is going to be converted to an EV, I think it's going to be replaced by the Type 135 which will be an all-new electric car built on the E-sports architecture...

Lotus EV bankrolled by world's richest man!

The investor presentation states that ICE model production at Lotus will end in 2026. That's pretty definitive. There will only be three more years of petrol-powered Emira. (see footnote on page 9 and repeated on page 13). A footnote on page 15 states that "the Emira is expected to be...

Lotus EV bankrolled by world's richest man!

It's confusing. It looks like they spinning out just Lotus Technology, the EV business based in China. If that's so, where does that leave the rest of Lotus Group, especially Lotus Cars in the UK which lacks EV expertise or resources? And who will own/control/design the electric sports car...

Lotus EV bankrolled by world's richest man!

It's a backdoor listing via a SPAC, so they can effectively set the valuation at anything they want as long as the owner of the SPAC (L Catterton) agrees to be diluted to that level. It doesn't mean the market will agree with that valuation longer term. I see this as a mixed outcome for Lotus...

Emiras advertised for sale on other sites

My bet is that the vast majority of exits have been a result of the delivery delays, not marketing or any other factor. Potential Emira owners, understandably, just don't want to wait two years to get a new car. The enthusiasm slowly diminishes. A new shiny thing catches the eye. A...

    Further Delays

The timing was as much about 2022 vs 2023 compliance plates as anything else. The last I heard from Lotus Australia is that there was one customer who more or less insisted that he get his car before the Xmas break even if it meant a 2022 compliance plate. The rest, plated as 2023, are being...

Interesting pre-delivery call from Customer Care - parts on back order

There's been a fair amount of supply chain impact at Porsche, too. For example, going back to customers with orders and informing them that certain memory seats are unavailable due to chip shortages. The Cayenne factory lines were closed down for a period due to shortages.
