I believe that's what they used to do.

Someone in another thread said Lotus don't bother testing the cars properly on the test track any more. If true, I guess this is the result.

Didn't Toyota own 50% of Lotus back in the early 1980s?

If they don't take them on the test track, how can they be sure the car's performance, handling, wind noise, steering and braking are ok?

If they have seat belt pretensioners this would be pretty important to get right.

I wonder if some of the intermittent issues raised on page 10 of this thread were an early indication of this 'water in the electrics' problem?

They use a 2.2 mile test track to test the cars to their limits, do they not? It's what makes Lotus cars unique, the same track used for testing by Ayrton Senna, Jim Clark, Emerson et al. It's always been a great selling point. Maybe these pump cars got missed in the rush.

Why do they go to BCA? Why not ship the cars straight to the despairing customers/dealers?

Do they not bed in the brakes as part of the high speed track testing each car endures?

Presumably followed by putting it on a ramp and carefully checking underneath for weeping seals, hoseclips, pipes etc, once the performance and handling have been verified on the track for a dozen hard laps or so. Then fitting the undertrays.

I wonder if they see these kind of software problems in the factory?
