Poll for Those with Paint Blistering / Bubbling Defect

I wonder how wealthy customers will react when blisters start popping out on the paint of the Eletre and Emeya?!

Poll for Those with Paint Blistering / Bubbling Defect

Holy crap. What a disaster. Implies that Lotus could eventually end up replacing panels/doors on hundreds or possibly even thousands of cars.

i4 wih 400HP - post from another Lotus Forum

If it's true that Lotus is no longer calling it the i4 for legal reasons, then rebranding it as the Lotus Emira Turbo would actually be quite smart.

i4 wih 400HP - post from another Lotus Forum

Lotus has removed the V6 from the configurator in the USA (not in the UK or Australia) but made no announcements. At the moment, all we have is rumors and gossip, mostly from US dealers. A couple of possibilities: Hethel is only building about 2,000 V6 Emiras each year. Given that limited...

i4 wih 400HP - post from another Lotus Forum

The end of 2025 is still 18 months from now and we always expected V6 production to finish by then. That's completely different from people claiming that the V6 is finishing now and being replaced by the 400HP i4.

i4 wih 400HP - post from another Lotus Forum

There's been no official communication from Lotus saying that V6 production is finishing this year. Nothing. So far it's all just gossip and rumours. Toyota has only been manufacturing the 2GR-FE engine for use by Lotus for several years, so eliminating the V6 (mostly the 2GR-FKS and 7GR-FKS)...

i4 wih 400HP - post from another Lotus Forum

Lotus cracks me up . . . their communication is so woeful that even their closest followers (this forum, dealers, etc) aren't certain if they're still selling their highest volume product, the V6 Emira. You couldn't make this stuff up.

Source? I know Toyota has dropped the engine from their cars, but I thought it was still being used in the Lexus. I haven't seen an announcement that they are actually closing the factory lines.

    Emira Full Handbook

They stopped providing full owner's manuals about a year ago. Perhaps they have reacted to negative feedback and changed this. My Emira only came with the service manual, quick start manual, and infotainment manual . . not a proper owner's manual.

    Navigation

At least you got it. In Australia, DAB radio and navigation are missing from the Emira after being part of the advertised spec . . . and with no warning or explanation from Lotus at all. So my son's Kia Rio has a better radio and navigation system than my exotic sportscar!

Why are so many Emiras being resold in the USA?

Suspect there were quite a few who thought they could make a bit of money flipping the car.
  14. Nick in Sydney

Why are so many Emiras being resold in the USA?

I don't think it's anything to do with being "unhappy with their purchase". 1. Some US owners have waited three years for their Emiras. It's not surprising that lives have changed and a Lotus Emira may no longer suit them. 2. Interest rates. In June 2021 the Fed funds rate was 0.08%...

Poll for Those with Paint Blistering / Bubbling Defect

A lawyer would have a field day with this. It's in plain English on their website and has been for a couple of years. They can't suddenly claim it was a typo. Paint In addition to the basic warranty, the paint of your Emira is covered for 5 years, regardless of how much you drive.

Soap safe for PPF and wheel cleaner

I don't think you need to be ultra-careful with the soap you use on PPF. If it's pH-neutral and safe for the paint on an expensive car then it will be fine for the PPF too.

    Harry sells his Emira

Agree. It's easy to forget that, despite the terrible launch, Emira has been a massive success for Lotus. In their wildest, wildest, dreams they never expected to take 10,000 deposits for the car. It will almost certainly be the best selling model in the history of the brand (Elise sold 35,000).

It sounds more like some minor contamination of the paint at the factory. Frustrating but much better than paint blisters from moisture!

Poll for Those with Paint Blistering / Bubbling Defect

That sucks, sorry to hear it. And your car is another example that proves this issue isn't limited to the doors. Frustrating that, as usual, Lotus isn't getting out ahead of the problem and communicating with customers. God forbid they should put out some information on what is obviously a...

100% import tariff on Chinese-made cars in USA

Lotus Cars in Hethel, yes, but they wouldn't care much about Lotus Technology, a Chinese headquartered company listed on a US stock exchange. Remember, Lotus Technology doesn't even own Lotus Cars yet. They just have an option to acquire it and the exclusive rights to sell its vehicles...

100% import tariff on Chinese-made cars in USA

I see that Volvo has announced a delay in launching their EX30 in the USA while they shift production from China to Europe to avoid the new 100% tariff on Chinese-made cars. For those who haven't followed the story, in May the US government announced that the import tariff on Chinese-made...

    Lotus Technology issues $110M bond

It's disclosed in the SEC's Form 6-K. I thought it was interesting that they dodged naming Geely in the press release. Perhaps a sign that the Chinese are a bit embarrassed (and pissed off) about having to plow $100M back into the business just after they divested a chunk.

    Lotus Technology issues $110M bond

Agree. But I fear Lotus has made a serious strategic error with Eletre and Emeya . . . pitched too far upmarket for the Lotus brand and at least five years too early for 100% BEV. They should have launched a hybrid, priced to compete with the Macan.

https://ir.group-lotus.com/news-releases/news-release-details/lotus-technology-secures-investment-strategic-investor Lotus just raised $110M from Geely International. Harry sells his Emira

Too many conspiracy theorists here. There's nothing unusual about Harry swapping out his cars to make room, keep the channel interesting, or help fund another car. For example, he sold the Lotus Esprit to fund the Emira. Now he's sold the Emira to partially fund the McLaren. You can only...

    Harry sells his Emira

Huh? Harry has never done anything but praise the Emira and has certainly never said it was boring. He made it clear that he's selling because he wants to try something new (and get the clicks no doubt) and because he doesn't like the direction of Lotus as a business. I also suspect there...

    Build Quality?

The "bulletproof Porsche" disappeared around the time of the 997. Yes, they are reliable compared to some other complex modern cars, but not bulletproof in the way of a 993 or longhood 911. My Emira doesn't feel fragile. I've done several road trips including driving Sydney to Brisbane and...

    $1149$ Oil change price

Maybe a high quality independent mechanic would make more sense than a Toyota dealer? The engine isn't anything that requires a "Toyota expert" and I'd rather have the underfloor trays, etc, removed and installed by someone who cares, not a junior mechanic at a Toyota dealership.
  32. Nick in Sydney

Will relay how much oil change cost.

Do you want a Toyota dealer removing and re-installing the floor trays? I don't. If you don't want to pay a Lotus dealer, then at least take it to a high-quality independent mechanic. BTW, I bet the $600 quote is for a full service, not just an oil change. For example, you're not going to...

Clutch malfunction and Gearbox can't shift into gear

TBH, I've had this in many manual cars over the years. I'd go as far as to say it is normal. A trick is to put the lever into first and then go into reverse, usually solves it.
